4-D: Across the Sea (Wyrm 13)

I have been swimming for so long, the fear has subsided enough for me to look back and see that I am not being chased anymore.

Or at least, that's what I want to tell myself.

I mean, I am in the middle of the ocean, in a fantasy world where Monsters exist.

And considering all the horror of the deep such as the likes of the giant squid back on the normaller Earth...yeah.

...Hm? I can just barely see something grey coming up from the horizon.

And as I got closer, it became apparent that it is the top of a mountain that I am seeing, situated on an island.

A pretty generic looking one, y'know the one with palm trees and such?

I better get there, I do need a break to eat to restore my SP and EP.

But as I draw near, I notice something beneath the water.

Wow wait, is that a sea turtle!?

And the island is really just the back of its shell!?

On crap! No way I can take on something like that as I am now!

But I really need that lunch break or I may not make it to shore whenever it next comes up.

[Appraisal]? To see if the description mentions whether it is hostile or not?

I activated [Appraisal] just as I remembered that the target of it will feel discomfort.

Oh fuck! I am dead!

One can find an entire ecosystem on the back of its shell akin to a normal island. It generally never moves unless it is under attack, and otherwise is always facing north while idling. >

Anyway, it seems safe enough for me to go there at least.

So I did, and eventually made landfall after much longer than expected.

Turns out the island, I mean turtle, was much larger and further away than I thought.

Whew, made it at last.

I walked past the moss on the edge and thankfully found actual grass growing on dirt further in and among the trees, which is far more comfortable to walk on.

Calling it a day here, I sat down, took out some food from [Spatial Storage] and began chewing down.

Good thing I have been the one carrying all our supplies...

Oh wait! Is Skanda-sama okay?!

The [Fartalk] connection is still up, so he should still be alive right?

Only one way to find out.

<Skanda? Are you there?>

Skanda-sama: <Eek!?>

Um, wow, that was such a girly sound coming from him of all people.

I am not sure whether to laugh, or feel second-hand embarrassment knowing this guy is my mentor.

Skanda-sama: <Ah-hum, Fei, are you alright?>

<Yeah, you?>

Skanda-sama: <Had some close calls, but I should be safe for now. Where are you right now?>

<On the um, World Turtle.>

Skanda-sama: <The what?>

I then proceed to tell him all about what [Appraisal] showed me.

Skanda-sama: <Sounds cool, let's check it out proper some day, but for now, from which side did you get onto that living island?>

<Huh? Um, the...left side of the turtle, why'd you ask?>

Skanda-sama: <So you got on from the west, and since the World Turtle is in the middle of the Dragon Sea, that should imply that you are halfway there to actual land further east.>

<Wow, you figure all that out from that little information?>

Skanda-sama: <You didn't?...Oh wait sorry, I didn't mean to insult your intelligence. Anyway point is you should leave the island asap and reach the other side of the Dragon Sea.>

<Okay? Why do I want to leave this place?>

Skanda-sama: <It's a place located on a Legendary Monster in the middle of the ocean, if that doesn't scream optional endgame content than I don't know what is, meaning the Monsters there are probably super strong so...>

<Oh, I get it now, thanks. So are we gonna meet up on the other side then?>

Skanda-sama: <Um...No actually, we need to continue to split. I am pretty sure Mother can track me, probably with the connection of [Kin Control], you would be in active danger travelling with me, so I can't join you until I have dealt with her. Sorry, but you're on your own for now.>

<Oh...>

Okay, now I am nervous.

I have been relying on Skanda-sama this entire time in this new life, having to take care of myself so suddenly is nerverecking to say the least.

Skanda-sama: <Hey there, you're pretty strong by Human standards, you should be fine as long as you steer clear of any obvious dangers. And now that we are outside the labyrinth, you just need forage fruits and vegetables to survive. You can do this.>

<...Yeah, you're right. I can do this!>

Skanda-sama: <That's the spirit kiddo! Well, if you don't mind me, I better get back to work, call if you need anything.>

<Mm-hm, alright. And remember to sleep or at least take a break when you need it!>

Skanda-sama is safe, and is gonna be safe, he is strong enough to take care of himself.

As for me, I should leave the World Turtle as soon as my SP and EP are topped off.

Um, north is top, east is right, so the right side of the turtle, which is on the opposite of where I am.

Hm, probably a bad idea to travel straight through the island, guess I will have to swim around instead.

Alright then, I better eat fast and get going again.
