MARCUS
WE'RE HAVING A VACAY TO HELL BECAUSE OF A MYSTERIOUS WRONG CALL.
Last night I was talking to an invisible falcon guy with a threatening message in my dream. That was last night.
Now it is happening.
"Hey Mark, Code's told me you've got a bad dream", that was Mom shouting from the kitchen earlier this morning. "Mind sharing it with us?".
By the way, I haven't told Mom about the dream. Nor Dad who is at work. I knew they wont believe me if I will.
People in our town knew me as Marcus Waters, son of Frank and Hazel Waters. It was a little town actually. They call it Dummel's Place after George Dummel, our town mayor.
So what if Pete Moron won that day of election? Would they call our town 'Moron's Place'? Pete Moron was our bald-headed neighbor who loved wearing his sunglasses even at night. My friend Toby once asked him, Hey Moron, where's the sun? And everybody laughed their heart out of my friend's silly joke.
"Maybe sometime Mom." I replied. I dont want to talk about that dream again. Truth is, part of me wanted to believe it but I kept on resisting it aint real.
"Sure, son." Mom's smile caught my attention. I glared at Cody but he just gave me his Im-out-of-it look. It freaks me out when Mom would smile for no reason.
"What's with that smile Mom?", I asked finally. Cody started walking his way upstairs. Now it's only me and Mom.
She forwarded to my direction.
"Hey Mark, you don't remember anything?", she said and it takes me a couple of seconds to decipher that mysterious smile on her face.
"Oh common, how can I forgot it!", I cussed. "It's my. . .".
"HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!", that was Cody plus my friends Toby and Jack plus Dad from upstairs. Everyone was wearing a party hat.
Dad holding a chocolate cake, stepped toward me and said, "Happy sixteenth birthday, my son".
-----
It was almost five o'clock when the party ended. I felt like I'm a seven year old having balloons and child games for his birthday.
Actually, that was not the best birthday ever.
All this time I've been thinking of something else. And you're right. It's the dream again.
Unluckily I've never seen some cute little minions visiting on my birthday. I already watched that movie Despicable Me and found out minions are harmless. That falcon's a liar.
Rain started to fall. Mom's talking with Dad upstairs. The phone rang.
"Hey Mark, can you please answer that call?", Cody shouted. I know he's busy playing video games in his phone. "It's freakin' annoying".
Cold and shivering, I went to answer the telephone. The number's unregistered.
"Hello?", I asked.
"Hello". It was a familiar voice of a man. Deep and serious.
"Hello? May I know who this is?", I asked again. Next time I wont answer some phone calls again. Specially if the number is from a stranger.
"Hey, it's me", the man answered. "Dont you remember me Marcus Waters?".
I dont know how the hell he knew my name. I wanted to ask but I saw Mom and Dad running their way down the stairs. In a hurry?
"Hey Mark. Who's on the phone?", Dad asked seriously. Now it's giving me the creeps.
"I dont know Dad but he said he knew me", I answered away from the phone.
"Let me answer that son".
I gave him the phone and moved to my room upstairs.
Minutes later I heard Mom walking through my room. She knocked and I let her in.
"Who's that on the phone Mom?", I asked her. She looks scared.
"Nothing. Uhmm. It was a wrong call, Mark". I know she's lying.
"But Mom he said he knew me".
"Okay, son. Well explain to you later. But as for now you have to pack up some clothes. We'll be having a vacation." She talks like she's in a hurry.
"Okay". I know there's something wrong happening. I can feel it.
Minutes later, after packing some things, I went downstairs to meet Cody and my hysterical parents.
"So where are we going Mom? Dad?", Cody asked.
It was still raining hard outside now.
"To Oregon, my sons", Dad answered. "To your Granpa Han's farmhouse".
"WHAT!!?", both I and Cody shouted. I cant believe this is happening. I dont want to go back to that place again. It seems hell for me.
"Mom, is this about that phone call a while ago?", I asked. I know they're hiding something away from me.
"Sons there's no time to explain. We have to get out of this place as soon as possible".
"Yeah right. We're going to hell", Cody muttered.
That is when the trouble begun.
