Zen does not confuse spirituality with thinking about God while one is peeling potatoes. Zen spirituality is just to peel the potatoes.
If you study the WRITINGS of the mystics, you will always find things in them that appear to be paradoxes, as in Zen, particularly.
Abundant choice doesn't force us to look for the absolute best of everything. It allows us to find the extremes in those things we really care about, whether that means great coffee, jeans cut wide across the hips, or a spouse who shares your zeal for mountaineering, Zen meditation, and SCIENCE fiction.
''Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing
and rightdoing there is a field.
I'll meet you there.
When the soul lies down in that grass
the world is too full to talk about."

he lives as if it was last day, forgets the past because it does not exist, and do not worry about future, it even is not, he lives through what you feel here and now.
