{A bit of trivia to land the story better... CBI is the official firm of detectives under the government of India. But they only handle high profile cases. APDI is a government recognised private firm of detectives. It honesty doesn't get much lime light tho.... so you probably haven't heard of it.
But for the story, I'm making it a big organisation flooded by smart, charming youngsters who do not suit the police force but have a knack for CBI. Now let's say CBI and APDI collaborate and have a wing for people who can work small cases to be apprentices under the government. Let's call them detectives cause why not!
Also, detectives as in not Sherlock Holmes or CID. Detectives as in David Mills and William Somerset from Seven (1995.) The whole rusty office, formals, one small desk, paperwork and a government issued firearm.}
The heavenly coffee which usually soothed her nerves did nothing for her now. Preethi stared at it vindictively as if cursing it for betraying her. 'Yeah definitely... curse the coffee and not yourself for landing yourself in this predicament' her brain chided her. Familiarity is supposed to help anxiety, yet sitting on this familiar bench among these familiar walls in this familiar cafeteria did nothing.
Yep there it was, the sign that these walls have fully sucked her in and transformed her into a doctor. She already looked the part with her run of the mill pants, t-shirt and long unbuttoned white shirt to tie it off. Heck, she even had the messy unruly bun to tie it all off. She wasn't thinking about the similarity as she put on the outfit this morning. She wasn't thinking about anything.
So, this must be one of the occasions where she looked like she definitely worked at the hospital. Which she did, however, contrary to popular belief, not everyone working in a hospital is a doctor. The doctors can barely pull their hours being a doctor, they would fall over if they had to maintain the building, manage the hospital, finance it (manage those too) and project it as a symbol of absolute virtue etc...
Proving here point, she just saw a first year resident and their receptionist chatting about how their chief doctor was dating a certain lawyer who worked for the hospital. That must definitely be a surprise. Rishi and Tara who would've thought? (Everyone)
No, there were other people for such jobs. She was one of them. She was an accountant. Not just a accountant but the accountant. If all it took to run the hospital was manage it's finances, then she ran it. She couldn't compare her stress levels to the doctors around here because that would be criminal and shameful for her own self. She's seen many of them working for days (multiple) running on nothing but coffee. She's done that for hours, her longest was 22, but she can't do it for days. (She's about to break it today.)
