The sun was shining brightly down on New York City below. Cars beeped noisy as they drove through the heavy traffic. A light morning breeze tossed about. People were milling down the streets.
Everything seemed normal and calm-for a city. Well, except for me.
I-I was freaking out!
My heart was hammering in my head and I began to hyperventilate. What was going on? How did I end up here? Where was Amy and Alex?
"You okay?"
At the young voice I jumped in startlement. Whirling around I came face to face with a young boy sitting on a stone border to a tree. He had dark chocolate-brown curly hair and a slightly darkened skin tone. If I had to guess, I would put his age at six or seven years old.
"Uh," I stammered, staring at the boy. "What do you mean?"
"You looked like you were about to faint or something," He said matter of factly.
At this I flushed a little and straightened the blue skirt I wore. "No, I," I coughed to clear my throat. "I just thought I was lost for a minute."
"Well, are you?"
Blinking, I looked at the young child. He seemed very intelligent for his age but there was something else about him I could not put my finger on-some air of gloom or sorrow. "Yes," I nodded. "I am lost."
"My brother can help you," The boy stated with full assurance.
"Your brother?" Puzzled, I raised an eyebrow.
"Yeah, his name is Noah," the boy grinned. "And he knows everybody everywhere, he's the smartest, bestest brother ever. We're a team," he folded his arms. "Him and I."
I did my best to hide the smile forming on my face, "Ah, okay. That's good-"
"Kris!" a voice suddenly called out.
Both the young boy and I turned around. A young African American man in a white suit, perhaps in his early to mid twenties, was hurrying over to us. He looked like an older version of the young boy, with the same dark brown hair. Though the man had some neatly kept stubble for a beard and mustache.
"Hi Noah!" the boy waved in greeting. He looked at me. "This is my big brother Noah-the one who I told you about."
He looked at the young man. "Noah, this is-'' Pausing , he seemed to realize something as he glanced back at me. "What's your name?"
"My name is Ray," I smiled at the boy-he seemed so cute and friendly. In Fact he reminded me of my little brother Matthew.
"Hello Ray," Noah gave a slight reserved nod. His face was tense and he seemed to almost have a defeated expression on his face.Than he looked at the boy with a scolding expression. "Kris, you ready to go?"
"Yeah," the boy hopped off the stone he was sitting on. He tugged on the man's coat. "Wait, Ray needs help. She's lost and I told her you could help."
The man was silent and I knew he did not trust me-after all we were in a city, New York City afterall.
"It's alright," I smiled pleasantly. "If you could just tell me what part of the city this is, I'll be able to find my way." That's what google maps is good for.
"We're in Brooklyn," Noah stared hard at me.
"Okay, thank you!" I reached into my pocket for my phone. When I pulled it out, to my shock my iphone was gone. In its place was an old flip phone!
"Something wrong?" Kris popped up.
"Uh, no," Was this my phone? I tried to keep my calm. Flipping open the phone I stared at it-there was my name in the right hand corner-but the screen was so tiny. It definitely did not have any texting abilities on it.
