It was over.
We had lost.
Scourge had the other half of the key-now with both halves he was going to help Unicron destroy this world.
There was a sniff. Turning I saw Ray sitting on the ground by Airazor's deceased body. She kept wiping her eyes with her hands and her face was red.
"Hey," walking over to her, I put my hand on her shoulder. I haven't seen her this...heartbroken...in a longtime. Angry-annoyed-frustrated-yes. But heartbroken-as though she had been injured on the inside-no, not the optimistic Ray-never. I was very concerned. "You okay?"
"Yeah," Sniffing, Ray pulled her glasses off with one hand and wiped her eyes with her other hand. She bit her lip and then looked up at me. "It's just...Airazor. Now she's gone-and soon our world will be too. This was all for nothing. She fought for nothing."
"Don't say that" I pushed a strand of her hair out of her eyes, feeling my own heart break at her suffering. Ray was usually the optimistic one-always brightening up the moods of those around her. Now seeing her with such dark-morose thoughts I was more than a little worried. It was as though she-her heart and soul- had been crushed.
I was not sure what to say-I had no words to help her feel better. But I silently rubbed her back gently with my hand.
Ray sighed and after a few more seconds she looked up at me with a slight smile as she stood up and dusted herself off. "Elena was right-you would make a good brother."
"Thanks," I gave a slightly pained smile. I don't know why but it hurt to hear her say that. The words "but I love you-not like a brother, like...like I want to kiss and hold you forever as mine–" surfaced to my lips. But I held my tongue-I could-would not say it. I needed to move on with my childhood crush. Instead, I would love her as if she were my own younger sister-like family.
There was the sound of thunder rolling in the distance. We all turned to see a large metal structure growing out of the ground-the portal to allow Unicron to enter this dimension.
"I'm sorry Noah," My attention was turned to Optimus as he spoke in a choked voice. Ray and I walked over to where he and the other autobots were gathered in the clearing. I had a feeling he was blaming himself for stopping Noah from destroying the key-then it would not have fallen into Scourge's hands.
Shrugging, Noah sighed heavily as he looked at the Prime. "You were looking out for yourself. I can't even be angry at you for that."
"On my home world," Optimus paused, then went on gravely. "We believe that the battle with darkness will continue 'till all are one,' ' he sighed, looking around at all of us present-as though in apology, then focusing back on Noah. "I lost sight of that. You fought for yours as I fought for mine, when we should've been fighting the darkness together."
