His Return
Chapter 27: His Command
Location: The Outskirts Of Athens, Greece

"Life puts us in situations where we are weak just to see how strong we are."

•••

Even before his time in Tartarus, Perseus had never liked being controlled.

He had never liked the idea of being a slave of the gods. A little pawn in a king's game, carrying out requests and orders for beings that were more than capable of completing the task on their own.

Ever since Perseus was cast into the pit, the sense of powerlessness had never crossed him.

He always felt that he was in control; that no one and nothing could touch him.

But now, the feeling of powerlessness quickly resurfaced itself in his mind.

For nearly eight years Perseus had gone without nightmares, and he was completely fine with that. But that had just changed.

For the first time in so long, he felt weak. Like he was less of an individual. He didn't like it.

His eyes, previously blurry began to clear. As he looked around he realized that his back laid against the muddy forest ground as people ringed around him looking down. He was covered with sweat, his hair sticking to his forehead and suddenly he became self conscious.

Perseus attempted to push himself up only to realize that something was holding him by the shoulder; on the same spot that had been used to shake him awake.

He looked over, finding a pair of piercing grey eyes filled with worry. Her hand was gentle as she reached to move the hair from his face. She refused to look away, fingers trembling despite herself.

"Are you okay?" The blonde whispered. "What was that?"

Perseus looked around at the faces that stood above him. Insecurity plagued his heart like never before. He felt weak, and his body hurt as if he had fallen from a building.

He could see campers stretching their hand out to help him up, but even in his extreme pain he refused them, dragging his own body from the ground and getting to his feet, one knee at a time. He moved slowly as he limped to his tent, his pride not allowing him the chance to take the campers' help.

They watched as he made his way to his tent, disappearing inside its walls.

Nyx gave him ambrosia to eat.

A lot of it, in fact.

Sometimes she had to remind him that he was no longer just a demigod, thus the amount he ate would not kill him. Still, he was weary of it. He wasn't accustomed to consuming such large amounts of ambrosia at one time.

It did help however. The pain was almost non existent now.

Almost.

"Fuck!" Perseus exclaimed as Nyx touched his shoulder. It was the one he had landed on.

"I'm sorry, but I need to see what's wrong." His wife said, with a slight smile on her lips. He looked at her and narrowed his eyes skeptically, but she hadn't seen the gesture.
