Chapter 12: Fighting to Survive
*****You and Todoroki looked around. "Is this... A landslide?" Todoroki said. A landside? Isn't that one of the USJ disasters? You checked the sky.
"We're still in the USJ. Look up, it's the dome!" You pointed at it.
Todoroki suddenly shoved you to the ground. He quickly turned around and froze a couple people, protecting you from an incoming attack that you hadn't noticed. "Villains are nearby," he said. You could spot a few already. "I'm going to freeze them. Can you use your quirk like you did during the Team Battles to escape my ice? I'll try my best to avoid you, just stay close."
You nodded and crouched down, nearly back-to-back from Todoroki. You created friction in the surrounding oxygen to heat up the air around your feet. "Freeze when you're ready, I'm good." you said.
You hadn't mentioned it to anyone, but since the day you lost in the Team Battles, you've been training yourself for a greater resistance to ice. It was slow going, and you hadn't made as much progress as you'd have liked, but it was time to put to use what you've been working on.
Todoroki raised his right hand and with it, the entire ground became encased in ice. It traveled up the bodies of the nearby villains, freezing them in their tracks. The small area around your feet remained untouched.
"Aren't you embarrassed to lose to some children? For God's sake, you're adults. Put up a real fight." he taunted.
You stood up and watched them. "We have to get back to the rest of the class. We should-" you froze in place, your quirk picking up something. "Todoroki, wait. Something's not adding up." He stayed quiet to let you focus. Raising your hand, you took control of all the oxygen, feeling its natural movements. You had only turned slightly when what you saw and what you felt we not in sync. "There!" you yelled to him. "There's someone invisible!"
He instantly moved to freeze that area in front of you before a voice called out, "Wait, it's me! Hagakure! Toru Hagakure!" she begged and pleaded, which caused Todoroki to stop dead in his tracks.
"Hagakure? Hagakure, come here, quick!" you urged the invisible girl. You watched her boots slide across the ice in an unstable manner. Once she was close enough, you grabbed what you hoped was her arms. Fear, confusion, relief. You ignored Feeling Check as best you could and turned to Todoroki. "We should head downwards. I'm betting that's where the exit is. Let's go." you said. He agreed.
You took one step on the frozen ice and slipped backwards. You groaned on your back, "Ow-shit.""
"Oh, sorry," Todoroki apologized and helped you stand. "You might not like it, but we should stay on the ice for protection and speed. I can freeze more enemies the further we're downhill." He explained. While you nodded in understanding, you still weren't very happy about the ice part.
You held out your hand for Hagakure which she gladly accepted. "Whatever happens, don't let go. Let's start, Todoroki. We'll stay close behind."
He held out his left hand for you, which caused you to hesitate. "It'll be easier for me to protect you if I know where you are at all times." he said. You had to agree, as much as you didn't like it. You doubted you could take on a whole group by yourself should they appear ambush you. You gritted your teeth and swallowed your pride.
Grabbing his hand in your right and squeezing Hagakure's in your left, the three of you began your descent down the incline. All three of you slid with one foot in front of the other, as if idly ice-skating. Todoroki used his right hand to freeze the ground if front of you and anyone else that came too close.
