Chapter 58: Not Strong Enough
*****When you looked down on Kyoden so close to the ground, the scene felt oddly reminiscent, you thought as you prepared your next move. No, there wasn't time to think about something so trivial.
Kyoden had certainly found a way to make himself faster. He launched himself at a great speed, but you fell before he could change directions. You released the oxygen from your control and disbanded the platform under your feet. The word wall left by Fukidashi still stood, much to your dismay. Even Aoyama's Navel Laser couldn't do any damage. He shattered your barriers with ease but the wall didn't take a dent. When you realized he wasn't as strong as he seemed, it filled you with adrenaline.
"Ow-ow-ow-" Kyoden complained when he fell to the ground. He rapidly shook the hand he just punched the wall with. "That freaking hurt! Stupid-" he continued to whine and moan. That seemed wrong. If he can make himself stronger, why would he get hurt from that? Does he not get any defense with his quirk?
When he recovered, he groaned in frustration. His indifference faded as he became more agitated. That probably wasn't a good sign.
"Okay, fine. Whatever. You're stupid and rude." He said. Instead of being offended, you were just plain confused. He must have been running out of patience since his insults were lacking from earlier. He mumbled to himself, something about energy which you couldn't quite make out.
Things were getting more dangerous, it was clear as day. As each second passed, the stalemate was getting worse. You were stuck in that small space with Kyoden. He struggled to hit you but you also struggled to take him out. It was only a matter of which happened first. You made the conscious decision to not run away, one you hoped you weren't going to regret. If a power type quirk was your weakness, you wanted to prove you could handle fighting one.
A small space... You began laughing to yourself. You were so focused on trying to overpower the power type you forgot the other uses for your quirk. Kyoden looked uncomfortable. You raised both hands in mock surrender. "Alright, come at me. Look, I won't move from this spot."
From his face, you knew he didn't trust a single word you said. He coughed awkwardly. And then scratched his throat. "Wait, is this-"
"If you want to breathe again..." you twisted one of the filters on your mask. It stopped taking oxygen from the air and switched to taking oxygen from the small canister connected to it. "You're going to have to kill me."
Kyoden realized the dire situation he allowed himself to be in. His chest rose and fell in a panicked beat. It was only going to be a few moments before he'd become light-headed or dizzy. If it went on longer than a minute there would be a good chance he'd pass out. A couple more and there was serious risk to his health. You planned on ending this as fast as you could.
He shot energy through his legs to lunge straight for you. You were true to your word, you didn't move from your spot. Of course, it hurt like hell when he punched you in the stomach. Your plan had been almost tossed to the side the moment you felt the pain. But your back hit the barrier you created behind you, which stopped you from being sent flying away. This wasn't something Kyoden expected, you could tell from his face when you grabbed part of his jacket to keep him in place. He tried to back away but you blanketed your fist with oxygen.
Airburst: Strike! You aimed for his sternum to knock the breath out of him. The force made him fly back. He hit one of Fukidashi's word walls that enclosed you two together. Along with the complete lack of oxygen and the exertion of his energy, Kyoden didn't get back up. He was still breathing, of course, especially when you returned the oxygen back to the area. You didn't kill the kid.
