Christopher helped Hyunjin get up and Hyunjin shook off his hand right away."Fine, fine, I will not touch you." Christopher said shrugging while Hyunjin was annoyed but also intrigued. He wanted to check if he could go back to his time if he died but that's when Christopher had to appear who he was curious about. Hyunjin took a deep breath and looked at Christopher.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean that. I'm just a bit anxious." Hyunjin bowed down.
"Wow, where did you learn to speak English like that? Like a brat but also an adult." Christopher chuckled. "Also, you don't have to bow at me. I'm not a noble." He smiled.
"Oh, I didn't realize."
"I understand, it is my attire."
"Then how were you invited here?"
"Well, you can tell I am a very important person." Christopher smiled as Hyunjin just looked at him in surprise. "You did not tell me your name."
"Oh! It's Hyu-! It's Samuel de Croix. You can call me Samuel."
"That is a nice name but where is your guard?"
"I don't have one yet."
"De Croix going around without a guard?"
"I came here with my father."
"It is dangerous for you to walk around alone also what you were going to do earlier was awful. Are you going through difficulties at home?"
"No! No, not at all, Lord Nicholas is very nice to me."
"Samuel? You were here? I looked everywhere for you!" Elyot said walking inside the balcony.
"Young master of Beauvarlet? Didn't you say you were not going to attend the party?" Hyunjin said who was surprised from Elyot's sudden appearance.
"I was forced, by my father." Elyot said in an annoyed tone. "Also I am going back to the Beauvarlet manor tonight."
"Young master of Beauvarlet, it is a sudden surprise to see you here." Christopher said bowing at Elyot.
"You guys know each other?" Elyot asked looking at Hyunjin.
"No, we only met earlier." Hyunjin explained.
"Oh, well if you are done talking can you come with me, Samuel?" Elyot asked.
"Where?"
"Anywhere but here."
Hyunjin sighed at Elyot's stubbornness. "It was nice seeing you, Sir Christopher. I'll take my leave."
"Yes, do not go around doing anything crazy again. Also I hope you would tell me your real name if we meet again." Christopher smiled before walking inside the hall and vanishing in crowd.
"Anything crazy? What did you do?" Elyot asked.
"Nothing of your concern, young master." Hyunjin shut down Elyot before he could get excited.
"Do you despise me?" Elyot asked now with a low voice. "I never had anyone talk to me like that."
"Why would I despise you?" Hyunjin was taken aback from Elyot's behaviour. He looked like he would start crying any moment. "I'm sorry for speaking like that." Hyunjin sighed.
"You do not mean that, you do not mean a single word you tell me. You are only tolerating me because I am a Beauvarlet." Elyot smiled sadly. "I understand it, I am a burden to everyone."
"Hey, it's not-" Hyunjin was cut off mid sentence.
"I am not a child anymore, I understand." Elyot said. "Do not follow me."
'You very much are' Hyunjin said to himself before Elyot stormed off the balcony.
Hyunjin did not follow Elyot as instructed. Hyunjin was only around Elyot because he was a Beauvarlet, and he had to be kind to him or otherwise he would be disrespecting the entire house of Beauvarlet's. In actuality, Hyunjin couldn't take a friendship with Elyot, who was ten years his junior, seriously. Hyunjin sighed as he entered the hall in search of Lord Nicholas; he was exhausted and wanted to go home. Other nobilities had taken over Lord Nicholas and they appeared to be having a serious talk, which Hyunjin did not want to disrupt, so he went away. He made his way over to the sitting aisle only to be summoned by Lord Nicholas.
"Samuel, meet Gilbert Maubour, he is going to be you sorcery master." Lord Nicholas said directing towards a man in his late forties. He looked like how Hyunjin would have imagined a wizard. He was wearing a long robe with a big hat and the long beard was like a cherry on top. Hyunjin bowed silently as he took a closer look at the man.
"I heard that you are interested in magic." Gilbert spoke. His voice was raspy and harsh.
"Yes." Hyunjin nodded slowly.
"Are you aware that you have to leave your residence and live in the magic tower until you are twenty for that?" Gilbert spoke sternly.
"I came to know about this only recently."
"And you are still eager?"
"Yes."
"I would like to speak to your father, will you excuse me?" Gilbert said before Hyunjin bowed at him and walked away.
And soon it was time to leave for home, Hyunjin was so tired he shifted all his weight on the carriage seat as soon as they were on. He took a deep breath and closed his eyes.
"Do you really want to leave and go to the magic tower?" Lord Nicholas asked after a long silence.
"Huh?! Uh......yes." Hyunjin said quickly as Lord Nicholas sighed.
"I do not quite know that place, de Croix have only been into swordsmanship and business. We have not ever practiced magic. So I am very skeptical."
"I think I'm going to be fine." Hyunjin said
"You think." Lord Nicholas sighed again. "Let me think about it." Hyunjin only nodded with you saying anything.
After a week had passed, there had been no reaction from Lord Nicholas, despite Hyunjin's low expectations. He didn't think Lord Nicholas would let him go over the magic tower. Apart from eating with Lord Nicholas and his wife, Hyunjin didn't see them very often, and he wasn't the most outgoing either. He would generally stay in his room and read books from the library because he was bored. Hyunjin tallied the days since he last saw Elyot, who was nowhere to be found.
'Maybe I was too harsh on him the last time.' Hyunjin thought to himself as he stared out the window. The sky was clear and the weather was pleasant, ideal time for a picnic, but Hyunjin was alone. The librarian, who was amazed by Hyunjin's interest in reading and shared his expertise, was his only friend. He refused to call Elyot his friend because he had never had a talk with him on his own, and he felt guilty for hurting the young boy. The workers would soon take a break because it was almost lunchtime, and Hyunjin hoped Lord Nicholas would bring up the subject.
Lord Nicholas, to Hyunjin's astonishment, brought it up during lunch. Even though he was hesitant to send Hyunjin to the magic tower at such an early age, he didn't want to resist the idea of him learning something. So he would only allow him go on the condition that he sent letters every two weeks. Hyunjin was so excited that he began packing his belongings even though he didn't have to. The magic tower forbids anyone from lending a helping hand, which meant Hyunjin would have to do everything himself, which worried everyone, but they didn't know Hyunjin had been taking care of himself for almost ten years.
Hyunjin wasn't attached to de Croix manor because he had only lived there for a few months, but the idea of living in the magical tower for twelve years worried him. The restrictions of the magical tower were very rigorous; he could only go home twice a year and expect a visit every one month, and then he had to leave for the tower in two days.
And the two days vanished into thin air, leaving Hyunjin standing in front of the magical tower with suitcases containing his things, unsure of what awaited him.
Hello guys, that's the intermission of the story. Hope you look forward ✨
