“marry me” he said as I brushed through my hair and I chuckled, blush creeping onto my face. “I’m serious” I turned to face him slowly. He was sat on the edge of his bed, looking down at his hands.

“I asked May about it a few weeks ago, and when I went over today, I just kind of thought” my eyes widened as he twisted his body towards me, and I saw the little box he was holding. “it was my mum’s” his eyes met mine hesitantly and I sat at his side, looking down at the ring with my heart racing.

“it’s beautiful”

“I had a whole thing planned out, this fancy restaurant and fireworks” he told me whilst shaking his head, “but I couldn’t think of a better time than now. Shit wait” he got of the bed and onto one knee in front of me. “I know we’re only young, but I can’t imagine spending my life with anyone else. Ever since we met I’ve had this fire that I didn’t know existed all because of you, I’m going to spend every minute of every day loving you and I hope that you want to spend the rest of you’re life with me” tears spilled down my cheeks as I covered my mouth with my hand.

This was really happening. Oh my god.

“Alexandrite Marie Greene, will you marry me?” his big brown eyes stared up at me and I nodded my head vigorously.

“is that even a question,” he laughed breathlessly “yes, yes, I love you” I brough my face down to his and he slipped the ring onto my finger, laughing into the kiss.

“I love you” he echoed, tears on his face as we stared at each other. “we’re a mess”

“yeah, as per usual, huh?” my gaze travelled down to the ring, and I couldn’t help but fondle it lovingly. “my mum’s going to go nuts”

“they already know, I asked their permission months ago” he reassured, and I couldn’t help but be slightly shocked.

“months ago? No wonder she started calling me more regularly” my smile was wide as I wiped my eyes, shaking my hands as adrenalin coursed through me.

“you alright?”

“I don’t know what to do, I kind of wanna scream” he laughed, pulling my out of the room and into the lift.

“if you want to scream there’s only one place to do it” the doors opened and we exited to the roof, cold rain immediately drenching us. “ready?”

I placed my hands on the cold stone and screamed as loud as I could into the city that never sleeps, Peter following suit.

“what the hell are you two doing?” Bucky shouted through the rain to the grinning pair of us.

“What does it sound like we’re doing?” Peter fired back and Buck beckoned us back into the lift.

“You’ll get ill doing that” he scolded as our dripping forms shivered in the dry walls, studying our beaming faces “what have you done? You’re far too pleased with yourselves from what Tony told us earlier.” I shrugged, brushing some wet hair away from my face, biting my smile as his eyes followed my hand.

“oh, I see. Congratulations” he brought us into a hug “took you long enough.”

“what did?” a voice asked from the living room as the doors opened.

“what in the world?” Tony shook his head at the pair of us.

“we’re engaged” Peter announced nonchalantly as he grabbed us some towels. The room froze, eyes looking between us, and I held up my hand for proof. Sound exploded around us as people got to their feet to congratulate us, hugs, and smiles going around the room and I finally felt content for the first time in a while.

“happy?” my finance asked me as we sat by the window later that night, discarded champagne glasses left on the side with orange lights bouncing across the walls.

“Never better”
