CHAPTER THREE

"I started cooking after Adam called to tell me you people are on your way. I had thought you would be going to your new home from the hotel?" Mrs Faithful Oshomole said once the couple had settled in.

"It didn't work out as planned. The guy disappointed me." Adam answered.

Stella wasn't too keen with the idea that they would be living with his people for the meantime, at least until her husband's house was set up. With all she's heard about mother-in-laws, mustering the courage to begin to live with one was almost getting on her nerves. But for the sake of family and understanding how her husband related with his, she resolved to see how it goes.

Adam led the way to the room they'll be staying in for the meantime. The duplex was a massive one containing a total of six bedrooms, two living rooms, and a large kitchen. He admitted his father had crafted the architectural plan with the entire family in mind hence the number of rooms and wide spaces. In fact, he's spent most of his adulthood in this house but soon understood that he needed to create a different life for himself especially if he planned to have a family in the future.

"Welcome home, baby." He ushered her inside the large room. The time said 4:15 pm and his wife was already looking spent after conveying from one means of transportation to another.

Her drooping eyes couldn't stay open for twenty minutes after she showered and laid down. By the time Adam returned with a tray containing their share of the food, she was already fast asleep and snoring softly. He let her be after covering her body properly with the duvet then sat at the reading desk by the left end of the room and had his meal quietly.

Asides the main reason that brought them home, he also had a business deal that he's been setting aside for a while. His CEO depended on him to close the deal and form a partnership with their potential clients but has been considerate of his situation and that he just concluded a wedding. However, he knew he has held off the responsibility for too long and Mr Akpabio's kindness wouldn't extend further.

The thought of leaving his newly-wedded wife to get used to the people and the running of the house while he jumped into his work seemed absurd. He wanted to be around at least for a few days to help her get along. Marital and otherwise. He could not have them feeling awkward around each other as it was the few days at the hotel. Their relationship was just starting up; that fact was not mysterious to him. Though they've known each other for years, he'd say seven to ten years but nothing serious ever happened between them. She was conservative and kept to herself mostly, and their conversation never went beyond what happened in or concerned the church.

So, he was not only dumbfounded but also astonished when his mother suggested her as the perfect wife and daughter-in-law of the family. And even more surprised when she accepted his proposal to court and eventually marry her. The courtship and probation period lasted for six months including finding out other life-related matters about each other, a total of nine months brought them closer yet kept them apart because of the rigorous standard of the church.

He fished out his phone from the pocket of his grey joggers and dialled Udeh's number. A grin tugging on his lips at the thought of the hell his PA must have been through the past two weeks.

"How far na, guy?" Udeh chirped as usual.

"Fine oo. I dey as you leave me na," Adam replied.
