CHAPTER FIVE

Three months down to forever and they were still relishing the euphoria of being married. Life was getting better almost on daily basis; in their business and marriage. Adam noticed that Stella was gradually coming out of her shell around him and hardly acted so reserved or shy. He'd finally secured the deal with the OKM account which also meant an increase to his monthly take-home and a venerated position in TSF. Things were eventually looking up for him seeing as they've moved into their own house where they can enjoy the much needed privacy.

They organized a small get-together party to celebrate the move into their new home. They had agreed it was only going to be for a few friends, close relatives and family. However, the idea of a small indoor event did not sit well with Stella's mum. She was of the opinion that it should be celebrated in a big way since it was a miracle from God but that excuse had not fooled her daughter. Stella knew what her mum really wanted was for people to see that her daughter's husband was well-to-do since he could afford to build such a beautiful four bedroom apartment. Nonetheless, she'd sided with her husband and insisted it would be no more than the short list of guests.

"Hmm, nawa for some women oo. They can actually be the cause of their own problems." Beatrice started.

She was seated on one of the plush Egyptian sofas in the sitting room. Directly behind is the dining area which have been occupied by guests who are eating and sharing personal gist. The house was filled with people even though they had been informed on short notice.

"O gini mere?" another elderly woman; an aunt from Adam's side, asked.

"Is it not what I'm seeing on this group on Facebook...one lady is asking what she can do to conceive again after seven years she and her husband went on family planning for five years since the birth of their first child." She related.

"The generation of now I don't understand anymore." The other woman concurred; dramatically throwing her hands around. "All these notion about family planning after one child si kwanu ebe?"

"They mean to say that women of old and the Bible who gave birth to ten and even more were foolish for doing so. Hei! They know very well that it is only God that gives children yet some of them will play oversmart," Beatrice kept ranting.

"Nwanne m, if you ask them now they will say it's because they want to enjoy their marriage as couples first. Do they not know that children are the spice of marriage?" Adam's aunt stated.

"Oo!" Beatrice agreed; throwing her palms open.

The other woman waggled her head distastefully. "Ya buru kwa si Adam na nwunye ya emebe ihe a?" she queried; looking at Beatrice for confirmation.

This time, the bride's mother was at loss for words but managed a small smile and pretended to go back to swiping through the newsfeed on her phone. But, she soon became restless and occasionally scanned the apartment for any sign of her daughter.

"I'll be back," she begged to leave eventually. She must arrest this matter now as it is a dire one. So, she went in search of her daughter.

She hasn't gone further than the kitchen when she caught a glimpse of her daughter's outfit. She took two steps backward then stood by the door. Stella was in a conversation with Adam's mother. Not wanting to break in on whatever they were talking about, she hesitated by the door until Mrs Oshomole began to leave. They shared an acknowledging smile and both women went their way.

"Ma, is there a problem?" Stella started as soon as she saw her mother by the door.

"I di too busy?" she said.
