CHAPTERELEVEN
Taking a deep breath as she drew herself to her feet, she felt proud at all she was able to accomplish within a short time. Thanks to Cynthia and Ifunanya who came on a short notice and delivered.
"So, we have four packs of a hundred pieces of baby diapers. Six sets of baby toiletries, and a sack full of baby clothes. Anything else I'm missing?" Ifunanya announced before the other ladies.
"I think they're complete. Stella even outdid herself," Cynthia said, perched on her bed.
They were currently in Cynthia's two-bedroom apartment. It was the closest stop coming from the market, so they opted to stop, drink a bottle of cool water and go over what they'd bought.
"Maybe I should have added one or two baby toys..." Stella thought aloud.
"This is enough, haba! You'll just make those hospital staff think you're desperate. I'm telling you this is enough." Ifunanya chided, taking another gulp of her water.
If only she knew how desperately Stella wanted, no, needed that miracle in order to continue living.
"Wait," Cynthia started, "hospital staff? It will be better you personally shared these amongst those pregnant women at the antenatal class. I believe their prayers will work faster than some group of people who want to make extra money." She advised.
"No na, it's better you give it to the hospital staff and remain anonymous, your Father who sees in secret will reward you according to the desires of your heart." Ify countered.
"Abeg! Madam Preacher." Cynthia rebuked Ify. "Ehn, Stels see this your saraka is entering my eye so if you don't know what to do with it, dash me and let me pray for you." Cynthia joked. That earned her an eye roll from Ifunanya.
"Come on girls, I'm serious...ouch!" Stella yelled before turning back to see what pierced the sole of her left foot. A screw nut.
"What's a screw nut doing all over the place?" she remarked, gesturing to the scattered look of the place. A ring-light at one point, books and magazines tossed over the coffee table, feminine clothes and shoes were strewn over the place.
"Beats me." Cynthia shrugged. "The life of a content creator, welcome to my life."
Stella exhaled. So this was the kind of freedom she wanted that she had to leave her parents' house. She could never imagine her own house in this kind of state. But, she wouldn't reprimand her cousin, that wasn't her job.
"Let me go and donate it to the hospital, whatever they do with it, is not my problem. Who's coming with me?"
Both Cynthia and Ifunanya raised their hands.
......
"Thank you, madam. This is truly thoughtful of you," the chief matron said to Stella.
"Please ma, I'd like it if this will just be between just us."
The aged, wrinkled dark-skinned lady, nodded. "No problem, dear. I wish you well." She concluded.
After they were done, Ifunanya excused herself to go home. Cynthia and Stella continued trekking back to Cynthia's apartment. They met Emeka standing by the door when they arrived.
Cynthia corked her brows; confusion etched all over her face since he did not speak to her about coming today.
"Hey babe," Emeka started by giving her a peck on her left cheek.
"What are you doing here?" she said.
Stella chuckled nervously. "Don't mind me, I'll just make myself comfortable inside."
