CHAPTERNINE

"Why do I have a feeling you're being soft on me?" Stella said.

"Believe me, I'm giving you time to adjust to the changes you've just learned about yourself. When we take things further, you'll be pleading for a break," Dr Raymond said, "sorry to say this, but PCOS can be depressing at some point. I only want to take it one step at a time."

"I will be fine." She assured him, "After all, it's because I trust you to be honest with me which is why I want you to oversee the whole process."

He chuckled. "It is my job to honest, but I am honoured to have earned your trust."

"So, where do we start? I didn't see my period for two months now," she said.

"I would like you to keep this in mind before we commence, and tell yourself every day that you are not suffering from a deadly condition. There are women living their lives normally even with PCOS. It is just an unfortunate condition that can be worked around for good, it shouldn't bring your life to a halt..." Raymond tried advising.

"Listen, I know you know better as a medical practitioner but a lot of things are on the line here. Soon my husband will start suspecting and..." she recollected herself from blurting further.

A large crease formed on Raymond's forehead at her involuntary blurt. "Your husband doesn't know about this?"

"That doesn't concern you," she snapped at him.

"Hmm...okay." He clicked his tongue against his teeth.

Stella sighed regrettably. "I'm sorry, it's this whole thing has made me all uptight." She admitted.

"Which is why you have to listen to me and not just do whatever you want. You have to relax and observe yourself now more than ever. Try as much as possible to always be in a calm and unbothered state of mind because the hormonal changes are based on your mental as well as your physical health."

When she didn't respond, he continued.

"Have you started the work-out just as I advised?"

"I...I'm still doing some beginners' moves," she answered.

He hesitated; corking his brows at her.

"At home!" she completed, rolling her eyes nonchalantly.

He wanted to ask if she did the exercises when her husband was around or away, that seemed to be a sensitive subject for her so he didn't tread that path. "Register at a gym. Give the instructor you'll meet, the written note I gave you. He will know what to do for you.

"In addition, keep your body and mind relaxed and informed of the changes that might occur. Take these drugs like I've prescribed, they're for your oestrogen and progesterone levels. Whenever you see your menses, call me, you have my number." He instructed; handing her a piece of paper.

She nodded even as she grasped the paper with renewed hope. One sheet of paper containing her salvation. She left his office and decided to buy some snacks to eat first. Yes, he'd advised her to start living healthy which included eating healthy but she could hardly stop herself from buying baked foods. Being sweet-toothed was her Achilles' heel. She could understand why he had charged her to start exercising at the gym, nonetheless, he hadn't specifically told her to quit baked sugary foods.

She would work on her body with her new coach, but no one has to know she was still relishing the various delicacies in restaurants and café.

When she made it out of the hospital and into the kiosk on the other side of the road, she saw that most women; buying one thing or another in the shop, were all pregnant. She recalled one of the nurses telling another that antenatal classes would hold today.
