Dinner Date?

Y/N's POV

Well, tonight I was going to have dinner with arguably the most incredible woman alive, who also turns out to be my neighbour. There is a lot of pressure to prepare a good dinner. Fortunately, cooking was a passion and this dinner was the perfect excuse to go all out. I had spent last night planning out the menu, ending up with a simple Mexican cuisine menu. I mean who doesn't like tortilla chips with dips, tacos and burritos? For starters, I decided to get chips and serve them with homemade guac and salsa. For mains, I prepared braised pork tacos, chicken tacos and beef tacos, with a wide variety of toppings. As for desserts, churros were something I had in mind for a while, but just never got to make it. I felt it closed out the dinner perfectly when paired with a chocolate sauce. 

I was up early, to drop Percy off at the airport before I made a trip to get groceries for dinner.  On the way back, I stopped by to grab a bottle of wine, something to complement the food. On the way back my phone started to ring, I checked the caller ID, and it read "Mom".

Hello Y/N/N, how are you doing? All settled in?

Yes, Mom, I am doing well and settling in just fine. How are you guys doing? How is Y/S/N?

We are all doing good, just busy with work, Y/S/N is busy with school and exams.

Wish her the best of luck, I was planning on travelling back home later this year and staying for a few weeks or so. 

Whatever works for you Y/N/N. How is your neighbourhood? Meet anyone interesting there yet?

The neighbourhood is a great, great location and is super quiet. Met my neighbour yesterday, she is a famous actress. I was bound to run into one in LA right?

That's great, you might want to invite her home for tea or dinner. Always good to know your neighbours well.

I know Mom, she is coming over for dinner today. I was just heading back home after buying groceries for dinner.

Good, good. Apart from that, have you thought about when you are going to get back to work?

MOM, like I told you the last time, I just don't have the passion anymore, I never did. My plan hasn't changed either. I take this 3-month hiatus, and if I want to get back in the industry, they will hire me anywhere. I have already received 3 outrageous offers.

I just worry that the industry might move on and your skillset will become obsolete.

I wouldn't worry and even if it does move on, I can always switch fields, quantum computing isn't the only thing I studied in university.

Okay Y/N, just take care of yourself and don't waste the next 3 months. Get out meet people and sort out your dating life. I want to be a grandmother soon.

Okay, that's it, I should get going, dinner isn't going to prepare itself. Love you Mom, talk to you later.

Well, that's the usual chat I have with my mom, she always manages to bring up my career and dating life in any conversation, it's one of the few things I dislike about her. Why can't she just let me be? I am enjoying life right now, why change something that isn't broken?
