Before the night ended, Hobie looked at me seriously at the window.

"I might 'ave to leave, you kno?"

"What?"

He shakes his head, with a sigh.

"Hobie?"

He pulls me into a kiss and disappears.

I shut my window, suddenly ached. Not because I'm confused, but because I felt this coming.

Hobie and I don't have a mature relationship, and I think that's what we love most about it. It's a sort of... 'do what I want' thing.

And what we both want is each other... right now.

Do I love him? I mean, maybe. But, there's a certain distance between us. One that isn't important to either of us.

We don't talk about our lives or anything.

Just... teenage dirtbags.

I laugh.

Then I go to bed. Don't want to think about the wrong things for too long.

The next day is very, quiet. Except for music of course, but I've got nothing to do.

  Just waiting for the night.

Why don't I get a job and move out? Lazy? Comfortable? Scared?

I haven't used these gadgets. Mostly because I forget what they do.

Jesus! There's a knock on my window.

Just the man I was dreaming of.

I open it. "Hey, you,"

"Can you leave?"

"Yes! I'm not dressed though," I look around for clothes.

He comes in.

"You kno' what I was thinkin'?"

"Yeah?" I ask, taking off my pajamas.

He pulls me to him in my underwear.

"Hobie," I laugh. But he wasn't laughing. He was looking at me.

"I'm jus' gonna stop you 'ere," he smiles. Then he sighs.

I push off. "What's up with you, punk?" I put my fishnets on. Then my shorts.

"I'm not taking you to the base," he says.

I turn, putting my hoodie over my head. "What? Oh," I smirk, "are we—?"

"No." He sighs.

"Hobie, spit it out," I smile for comfort but I'm not joking.

"Remember the chat about the multiverse?" He sits on my bed.

"Yeah?" Oh, shit. Is this it? The moment he is going to... leave?

He says nothing.

"Hey, talk to me," I urge.

"I'm just thinkin' still. I've got two options. It's selfish one of 'em."

I'm trying to connect the dots on my own because he's not helping.

He looks at me looking down.

"Let's go," he says.

He takes my hand, and we go.

We're in an apartment. His apartment. It is r fancy at all but it seems to have everything he needs.

His clothes, a couch, and a bed really. Oh.

"Two toothbrushes?" I ask.

"Gwendy," he says.

Right.

He picks up his wrist and with a few things there's a projection of a girl. A girl... with a hood. In a costume with different colors and designs, but the same eyes as his.

Gwen... spiders? This makes no sense.

"Gwendy hop in," he says.

She nods and seems to kick up a skateboard.

And the most miraculous thing happens.

I'm not sure how to explain but here goes.

A multicolored hexagonal shape opens in the corner of the room and things seem to levitate a bit. I feel lighter even. And through the magnificence steps a girl. The girl.

"Holy. shit."

She's surprised to see me. "Hi, Hobie, and," she looks at him.

Hobie introduces me with my name. "She's part of da band,"

"Hi, Gwen," I welcome her, holding my hand out.

She daps it. Cool with me.

"Nice to meet you, Hobie is obsessed," she laughs, setting down her board. She unmasks herself and she's got a punk look as well.

While Hobie shrugs I ask, "Are there more spider people?"

"Oh, for sure, jus not in dis universe."

They've told me this before. But it's starting to make more sense now.

Gwen makes herself at home.

"I've got bevvy," he says before turning to the kitchen.

Why am I here? I mean it's better than home, but I'm still curious.

"Hey, wanna come sit? He doesn't say much, I'm sure I could explain somethings better than he can,"

"Oh, absolutely," I chuckle, then take a seat next to her on the couch.

"I can tell you what I know about him first," she suggests.

"Have at it," I shrug. We're both just bored, but she looks like she just got out of a wrestling match—respectfully.

So we have a chat.
