I sat on the hill, watching the fireworks going off. They were lovely, so many colors. The wave of sound that came from them, resonated in my bones, washing every part of me, except my ears.
I could feel their sound, and smiled at the colors dancing across the sky.
A hand touched my shoulder as I looked up and smiled up at the man who stood behind me.
He plopped down beside me, setting his hand somewhat shyly on mine. I giggled soundless at him, or maybe not, I didn't know. But I squeezed his hand before getting to my knees and crawling behind him.
He stayed still as I messed with his hair. Then he began to write something as I braided the white strands. When I was about half way through his braid, he held up the tablet so I could see, and I set his hair in his hand, trading for the tablet.
I love you, I wish you could hear me say it.
I puffed air from my lips as I scribbled on the tablet, my same response as always.
I'd rather feel your love any day than only hear the words.
Trading back the tablet, I continued braiding his hair as the boom of the fireworks continued.
He trembled softly as I tied off his braid when he fell back, his head landing in my lap. He smiled up at me, a laugh in his eyes as I lightly tapped his nose.
He closed his eyes as I looked to the sky. Simply enjoying the moment we had.
