Chapter 1

-6 hours earlier-

"Val! Oh my god I missed you so much!" Sylvie said, hurrying to stand up and hug her sister. "I missed you too, Syl! How are you?" Valerie asked, returning the hug. "I'm good! I'm really liking it here in Chicago. Just missing my big sis." Sylvie said while Valerie was holding her little sister at arm's length to see how she was.

Hearing that she was happy here was a relief to Valerie, so she brought Sylvie in for another hug. "I miss you too. It just isn't the same without having you so close by."

"How long are you staying?" Sylvie asked after returning to her seat. "About two weeks if that's alright with you?" Valerie replied. "Of course it is!" Sylvie said before the two women easily fell into conversation as if they've never been apart.

-2 hours earlier-
"Well, let's go to my apartment. Where's your car?" Sylvie asked, while the women were walking out of the restaurant into the night with their arms intertwined. "Right here. This is-" "Sylvie!" "Antonio? Hey!" Sylvie said enthusiastically to the man that was walking towards them with his friend. "Hi Adam" Sylvie said, greeting the other man after kissing the one that was apparently named Antonio. "Adam, Toni, this is my sister, Valerie. Val, this is Adam and my boyfriend Antonio" "boyfriend huh?" Val asked, raising her eyebrow at her sister who was blushing very hard at the moment "Valllll" "just kidding Syl. Nice to meet you guys. Just know, if you ever break her heart you'll have to deal with me." Valerie said shaking Antonio's hand before shaking Adam's.

Weirdly enough, shaking Adam's hand made her feel some sort of spark. Brushing it off as static electricity Valerie ignored it for now. "You are beautiful" Adam said, in awe of finding his mate making her giggle while saying thank you. That was a sound he wanted to hear forever. "Can I- Can I buy you a drink?" Adam asked, extremely nervous for her answer. "Want to go to the bar?" Antonio asked Sylvie as well, making the sisters look at each other and agree that they would. "I'd love that" Valerie replied to Adam, making him feel as if he was on cloud 9.

"So where do you come from?" Adam asked the girl while they were standing at the bar, waiting for their drinks. Antonio and Sylvie were smooching off on the side, not paying attention to the two at all. "I'm from Indiana, visiting Syl for a couple of weeks and checking if she's doing alright. How do you guys know each other?" "I'm in the same pa- crowd as the rest of the emergency responders. We usually see each other at Molly's, that's a bar owned by a couple of firefighters, or we work a case together." Adam explained, making Valerie respond "maybe you could show me Molly's sometime" while brushing her hair behind her ear. "That's definitely something I can do" Adam quickly said, brushing the same strand of hair behind Val's ear that didn't stay there. They were just staring in each other's eyes until Valerie snapped out of it. "So, tell me about yourself" she told Adam, making him grin and start talking.

They kept talking for about an hour until they were kicked out of the bar at closing time. Seeing Antonio and Sylvie sadly saying goodbye, Valerie walked up to the pair and asked for Sylvie's keys. "What? Why?" "I know you want to stay the night at Antonio's and it's perfectly fine by me. I'll find your apartment and I'll see you tomorrow for breakfast? Antonio's of course welcome as well" Sylvie was beaming "are you sure?" She did ask, making Valerie nod to confirm. "I'll be fine" she assured Sylvie before Adam said "I'll drive you"

"See?" Val said, "I'll be fine. Have fun, but not too much" she joked, while shooting a wink at her little sister who laughed a little before pulling her sister in a hug before giving her the keys. "Thanks sis, I love you" "I love you too. See you tomorrow" Valerie said, pulling away from the hug, waving goodbye to Antonio and Sylvie and walking towards her car for the second time that night but this time with Adam.

"You don't have to drive me if you don't want to" she told him "I'm sure I can find it" "I'm sure you can. But I'll feel better knowing you got there safely." Adam responded, holding out his arm for her "my lady". "Well, thank you, kind sir" she joked, giggling again. "Want me to drive?" Adam offered when they got to her car. "Yes please" she told him, giving him her car keys before walking towards the passenger side.

The car ride was nice. Adam put his hand on her leg at some point and to her it felt like it belonged there, making her put her hand over his not long after, earning a smile from Adam. "Here's my apartment" Adam pointed out, making Valerie look at it before saying "from what I can see it looks nice" she told him, making him offer "want to make a quick stop? I can show you around?" "Let's do it" Val told him, not wanting their night together to end yet.

Parking the car, Adam quickly got out so he could open Val's door. "Well thank you" she told him, taking the hand he offered as well. "Anything for you" he said, guiding her towards his front door and opening it.

"Make yourself at home. Want something to drink?" He offered, wanting to pamper his mate and make her feel at home. "If we drink a beer we can't drive anymore." she told him, walking towards him. "Then you'll need to stay here" he told her, voice deep with want. "Can I?" Valerie asked him, before Adam kissed her with all he had. Valerie immediately returned the kiss, making Adam feel as if he was on cloud 9. He had found his mate and here she was, in his apartment, kissing him!

Picking her up by her thighs, he put her on the counter, so they were at the same height while kissing as he was quite taller than her. She started taking his shirt off before taking her own off, much to his delight. He picked her up again and carried her to the bedroom. Wanting their first time to be as comfortable as possible for her. "Are you sure?" Adam asked pulling away a little from Valerie, making the girl respond "definitely" admiring the way he smiled at her answer before pulling him back to her.

Clothes were lost, love was made, but at their climax Adam did something she never expected. His teeth got longer and he bit her making her gasp before losing consciousness. Making Adam realize what he just did.

Calling Jay, who he knew he shared a mate with, he said "Jay, it's me, Adam", clearly panicking. "Adam? What's up?" Jay asked, surprised by the call from his friend at 2 in the morning. "I fucked up man, I don't know what do to" Adam said, making Jay interrupt his panicking by saying "tell me what happened. I'm sure we can fix it".

"I found our mate" Adam confessed, making Jay respond "but that's a good thing. Why are you so freaked out?"

"I marked her"
