"Val, I need to take you outside to the ambulance, alright?" Jay softly asked her. Valerie was clinging to Jay for dear life, almost as if she was scared that Trenton could wake up any minute. "Please, don't let me go" she begged him, still crying. "I'll be there with you but we need to get your leg checked out. You've lost a lot of blood" Jay told her. He had seen the puddle that had formed below her while she was standing in the elevator. "I'm going to pick you up, alright? If it hurts, let me know" Jay said, taking charge to get his mate medical attention. He quickly picked her up and rushed outside where the ambulance was waiting.
Seeing Jay walk outside with Valerie in his arms made everyone spring into action. Gabby and Sylvie rushed towards the two with the gurney and Jay carefully put Valerie down. "Please stay with me" she begged him, holding his hand. "I'm here with you, babe. I'm not going anywhere." Jay assured her, squeezing her hand.
Seeing the state her sister was in made it difficult for Sylvie to keep focused. She was getting emotional and froze which made Gabby call Antonio over to take Sylvie away. "Antonio! Valerie, I'm going to ask Connor and Will to give me a hand, alright?" Receiving a small nod from the girl, she called Will and Connor over and told them to help stop the bleeding from her thigh. "I need you to let go of Jay so I can check your vitals, okay?" Gabby asked Valerie, making the latter look at Jay who said "it's alright, I'll be here". That made her slowly let go of his hand, giving Gabby the space she needed to check her blood pressure. "We're ready" Connor told Gabby, stepping back. "Help me get her in the ambo." Gabby told them, taking off the pressure cuff and starting to move the gurney.
The ride towards Chicago Med felt like an eternity for the guys. Jay, Connor and Will were in the back of the ambo with Valerie while Gabby was driving. Arriving at Med Connor quickly took her towards an operating room so they could remove the bullets.
When Val woke up, she saw Jay fast asleep in the chair next to her bed. Unbeknown to her, the other guys were camping out in the waiting room. Being in their presence really helped Valerie feel better, not that she knew that. It wouldn't take away the pain from her leg, but it would make it a bit more bearable.
When Val was admiring the sleeping Jay, Sylvie suddenly came in "you're awake" she breathed out in relief. "I am" she softly said. "He hasn't left your side since he could come see you" Sylvie told her, putting in a good word for Jay and making Valerie smile. "Do you want me to get the doctor?" "Could you get Connor or Will?" Valerie asked, feeling more comfortable around them after they had helped her in the ambulance "I wouldn't be able to get anyone else" Sylvie joked.
"She's up" Sylvie told the guys, before adding "she asked if I could ask for the two of you so I think you're getting back on her good side." "Let's not let the lady wait" Connor told Will, quickly getting up to go check on her. When they walked in they saw her talking to Jay and laughing with him. Clearly he was also getting into her good books.
"How are you doing Val?" Will asked, happy that the girl was awake. "My leg hurts a bit but other than that I'm fine." Val said, "thank you for saving me" "we'll always save you" Connor told her, completely serious making her smile at him.
After they checked her out they concluded she was doing fine. They had removed the bullets and the wound didn't seem to be infected. "Your vitals are good and the stitches seem fine. Do you want anything?" Connor asked her, making Val ask for a glass of water. "I'll be right back" he said. "Do you know when I would be able to go home?" Valerie asked Will, making Jay and him freeze, thinking she was talking about Indiana. "I uh-" Will didn't know what to say. She wouldn't be able to go back to Indiana, not when her mates were here in Chicago. Luckily for him, Sylvie just came in "everything alright?" she asked, feeling the awkwardness in the room. "Yeah, I just asked Will when I would be able to go back home." "You can't" Sylvie hurriedly said. "What?" Valerie asked, confused. "I have decided I'm going to take care of you. So you can't go home." Sylvie said, trying to buy the guys some time to tell Valerie the truth. "Uh, okay then. Are you sure?" "Absolutely!" Sylvie beamed, glad her sister was taking the bait. "Thanks Syl, that's really nice of you." Valerie said, reaching for her sister's hand and squeezing it. "In that case, Will, when do you think I can go to Sylvie's home?" Will breathed out in relief. He was glad Sylvie was helping them even though he was aware it was a temporary solution to buy themselves some time. He knew they had to tell her, seeing as Trenton had told her they were mates already. Not that she understood what he meant, but still. "We want to keep you here for the night and if everything's still fine tomorrow, you're free to go" "that's great, thanks!" Valerie said, glad to have an idea of when she would be getting out of here. "Well in that case, I better get everything ready" Sylvie said, looking for an excuse to leave her sister alone with her mates for a bit.
Sylvie almost ran into Connor on her way out. Offering his mate's sister a smile he quickly focused his attention back on Valerie. "Here you go" Connor said, walking in with a bottle of water and a straw. "Thanks Connor" Valerie said, smiling at him, making him proud of having done something for his mate. The moment was interrupted by Jay's phone ringing "Halstead" he said, making Valerie look at him before looking at Will, connecting the dots that the two of them were brothers. "I'll be there in 15" Jay said after listening to the person on the other end of the line. "I have to go" Jay said with a pained expression on his face. "Thanks for saving me and staying with me for as long as you did" Valerie told him, pulling him in for a hug and kissing his cheek before releasing him. Jay was a happy man now. His mate had kissed his cheek and hugged him. "You're very welcome" he told her, kissing her forehead and letting his lips linger a bit. "Want me to grab Kelly and Matt to come keep you company?"
