The rain finally stopped and my family and friends came to see me. Casey never came by. I didn't understand why he never came to see me. Joe stayed in town though and stayed with me through the two weeks I stayed in the hospital. I was confused as to why Casey never came by at all during my stay at the hospital. I was released and went to Caroline's funeral. Joe went with me and held me close as I cried over her grave. We went to the reception and I saw Casey. It was the first time I had seen him in two weeks. I went over to him and he looked upset.

"Wow, you finally show up."

He looked up at me. "We need to talk."

"Yeah, we do."

I followed him outside and he twiddled his thumbs.

"I'm sorry."

"You're sorry? My best friend dies and I was stuck in a hospital bed for two weeks. Not once did you come and see me. You didn't even call. And that is all you have to say to me?"

"I didn't want to tell you."

"Tell me what?"

"Before you got to the church, one of my ex girlfriends showed up. She wants to be with me again."

"You're breaking up with me? At my best friend's funeral."

"Look, I'm sorry..."

I slapped him in the face. "How dare you. How dare you come here and do this to me. You should leave."

"Evanna..."

"No, leave. And don't you ever contact me again."

I turned to leave and saw Joe standing close by. I walked up to him.

"Get a good view of the show?"

"Evanna..."

I walked away from him towards a park that was nearby. I knew I was being harsh towards him but I was angry. I started crying as I sat down on one of the swings. My life was falling apart. I heard the chains of another swing shake next to me and looked to see Joe.

"You here to gloat?"

"Why would I gloat?"

"Because I bet you're enjoying this. I broke your heart and now this is karma getting back at me for it."

I put my face in my hands and I felt Joe pull my swing towards his. He pulled me out of the swing and put me in his lap. He pulled me close in his arms.

"He is a jerk who doesn't deserve you. And I'm not enjoying this. I never enjoy seeing you sad."

I looked at him and he wiped away my tears. Joe had always been there for me, even after our break up. I pulled him to me and kissed him but he pushed me away.

"This is wrong. You've been through a lot. You're vulnerable and I have a girlfriend."

"If it is wrong, then why does it feel so right?"

He looked pained as he looked at me. He was being torn in two. He put me down.

"I have to go."

"Joe..."

"Evanna, you just have to give me some time. I'll be here for you, as a friend. Anything more than that...I will have to think about."

He walked away from me, my world falling apart around me.

~ Two Weeks Later ~

I was in my living room watching a movie when I heard a knock at my door. I looked at the time. 1 a.m? Who was here at 1 in the morning? I went to the door and looked to see Joe on my doorstep. I opened the door and he was drenched in water. The rain falling down on him as he stood on my porch.

"Joe, what are you..."

And then he kissed me. And I kissed him back. He pulled away and I was so confused.

"Joe?"

"I love you, Evanna. I made a mistake all those years ago by letting you go. I'm not about to make that mistake again."

"What about your girlfriend?"

"I broke up with her. I love you. I've always loved you."

I pulled him to me and started kissing him. I pulled him inside. I didn't know what the future held for us but I knew one thing was for sure, I wasn't going to let this man go again.
