"So, Chelsea, what's your super special vampire power?" I asked.

There wasn't anyone in the Volturi that didn't have a reason to be here. I'd been studying the gurd, figuring out how everything worked and how I fit in. But Chelsea, and her mate Afton, had no reason for being here. They seemed to be perfectly normal, boring vampires. So whatever kept them close to Aro, must be so great and powerful, that they have to keep it a secret.

"Focus on your Maths, Ember," she chided.

I looked down at the practice sheets before me filled with numbers and letters and theorems. "I don't want to do this anymore," I yawned. "What's your extraordinarily unique and powerful talent?"

"You need to learn this, look it's really simple, all you need to do is--"

"I know. I know how to do it. But it's boring. And I don't want to do it. Why won't you tell me what your incredible ability is now?"

"You need to practice this. Try it one more time, just once, so I know for sure that you understand it."

"Why are you ignoring my questions?"

"So, if you have A and B--"

"I don't know and I don't care. What's your power."

"Is there anything I can do to make you care?"

"Tell me your power."

"Anything besides that?"

She wasn't making eye contact with me. No one does anymore. They're all afraid that I'll hypnotize them.

I huffed. Her ability must be even more powerful than I thought. "A girl cheese sandwich," I said giving in.

"A grilled cheese," she corrected, and said it in itallian, "Panino con formaggio grigliato," and then in Russian, "бутерброд с запеченным сыром." And then she conceded, "Yes, I can make arrangments to get you a grilled cheese sandwich if you focus right now."

"I can't focus, my tummy wants a girl cheese now." I don't know why I insisted on calling it that except that that's what Daddy used to refer to it as.

"Grilled cheese," she corrected again. "Do your work or no grilled cheese."

"No."

"Ember..."

"Fine. Okay. I'll do my math, but I really am serious about the girl cheese."

"Great! Now--"

"But why won't you tell me what your super power is?"

"...Show me how you solve number 71," she continued blatantly avoiding my inquiries.

She might have won this time, but I'll find out what she is hiding someday. Yes, very soon. Very soon indeed...
