Renesme
I was playing tag with Jacob, Seth, and Leah in the backyard, they were letting me win by running really slow. Mom and Dad were sitting on the porch with the other vampires, they were taking a break from training for a little bit.

I ran around Leah, who was It right now. She moved so slowly toward me, that when I ran, I felt like I had super speedy powers. I skipped behind Seth, who was then tagged by Leah right away, he turned around quickly and started to corner me, but then Jacob came running from no where, and snatched me up into his arms. I giggled uncontrollably as I looked over his shoulder at Seth trying to catch up with Jacob who was running in a big circle around the house. When Seth finally caught up, Jacob flopped carelessly onto the soft green grass of the backyard, I rolled off of him into a ball trying to fight against fits of giggles with no luck.

An image flashed past my eyes right then, abruptly ending my laugh attack. I saw a man lying dead in an alleyway. I was standing over him, but I was still lying in the soft green grass. I stared up at the rare cloudless forget-me-not blue sky, while simultaneously staring down at the dead man. I heard the pretty call of a robin in a tree and the river burbling twenty feet away, but it mixed in with the hustle and bustle of a wide awake city, and a stray cat hissing at me from atop a window sill overhead. I felt the grass tickle my neck and the warm breeze ruffle my dress, and at the same time feeling the still warm body underneath me as I crouch over it, and the cold wind blow my hair around my face, and the litter of old paper bags and empty beer cans beneath my bare feet.

I felt as I pressed my lips to the skin of the dead man, Did I just kill him? How? I breathed in his scent, so sweet. Not as sweet as his blood would be running down my throat though. What was I thinking? I don't drink human blood. And yet, I could already imagine it dribbling down my chin, with all the richness it would have, trying to savor it, but ending up swallowing it all down as fast as I could.

Then my teeth sank into his skin, I was swallowed up into the scene of it all, forgetting all about the day I was leaving behind. I was shrowed in darkness, alone in an alley. The blood was so warm, I shivered as it warmed up my tummy, letting me forget about my freezing toes where they stood in a puddle of standing water. The blood was sweeter than anything I've ever tasted, it was taking over all of my senses. I wanted this to last forever, to be a never ending flow of blood dripping down my throat, but like everything, it had to end. I tried to get more out of him, sucking at the bite in his neck, but I had already gotten the last drops out just moments ago.

"Sugar," I heard a man say. "There are plenty to pick from, that ones already dry." I looked up top see who said it, whoever he was he was standing right next to me, towering above me, his face lingering in shadow. "We have a few more hours until sunrise."

But before I could ask who he was, I was back on the grass with the bright blue sky and warm breeze, with the robin and the river. Dad kneeling over me, looking at me worried.
"Nessie, what was that?" he asked sternly.

But I didn't know how to answer.

The Girl

I looked up at Daddy, wondering what just happened. Where was I? Of course I was here, in this city, but for a brief moment I was somewhere else entirely. Somewhere warm, happy. The sky had been bright blue, I couldn't forget how blue and wonderful it seemed to be, never ending. And there were birds singing, with a river flowing somewhere, I was lying down on wonderfully green grass that tickled my neck, and the clothes I was wearing felt so soft and clean. Like I hadn't worn them for days on end. And my skin was glittering like a million diamonds were reflecting off a vibrant double rainbow. It was the most wonderful thing I had ever experienced in my short life.

It was ruined though, by some other vampire running over to me, he was calling me Nessie. What kind of a name is that? But before I could answer, I was thrown back here, into the cold, dark city.

"You okay, Muffin?" Daddy asked.

I looked up at him and nodded. There really wasn't any point in telling him, he was basically only good at running away, and you can't run away from your own mind. It was probably just my imagination, he was always saying mine was too big.

"Good, I've been looking for you," he said. "You hardly left a trail, I'm very proud." He ruffled my hair. Then he picked up the body I had drank without even realizing I had drank it, and he threw it into the nearest dumpster.

"Daddy?"

"Yeah, Darling?" He took out a babywipe from a blue bag with elephants on it, and I frowned, realizing it had been the bag that Marrissa's mom had. He knelt down, and began wiping the blood off my chin.

"I was thinking about my name."

"Did you pick one?"

"No... Kinda... Well, I don't know."

"Well?"

"I know I want something cool. Something like. . ."

"Like?"

"Rosanna The Ringleader."

"Ringleader? Why not just Rosanna?"

I averted my eyes, knowing he'd think it was dumb. "That's not the only one."

"What else have you got?"

I squinched my face up knowing he wont like my choices. But I brought it up already, I can't just take my words back. "The High lord of Anarchy."

He coughed trying to hold back his laughter, "Sweetie, that's not even a name, that's just a title."

"What about, Magenta the Vengeance Demon of Doom?"

"I've been telling you too many stories. But you don't need a big title like the characters in my stories. You're not a demon. You don't bring vengeance or doom. You're just a girl. Why not just Rose or Mag?"

I shrugged my shoulder looking at the ground, disappointed in myself that I couldn't come up with good names. "What's your name?" I asked.

Daddy wiped a tear off my cheek, "Don't cry." He tucked my bangs behind my ears. "My name is Jack."

"Just Jack?" I sniffled.

"Just Jack."

"Why would you want to be just Jack?"

"Because I've always just been Jack." He shrugged. "I've never really thought about it."

"Do you like being just Jack?"

"I-- Yeah. I do."

I looked away, using my sleeve to wipe away the tears. It was still damp from the ocean water. "I don't think I want to be called just Jack," I told him honestly. Daddy snorted at this. "Or just anything."

"What is it then? The Great and Powerful Kung Fu Master of Chaos?" He chuckled at his joke.

I shook my head, "No, That's not bad, but I think," and I took a breath and looked into his eyes so I could make hi really understand, "My name should be Stormy, Overlord of Everything."

He looked skeptically amused but nodded along anyways. "Well, okay. It's very nice to meet you, Stormy, Overlord of Everything." He stuck his hand out for a shake.

I grinned as I took it, "Really?"

Daddy nodded, squeazing my hand tight. "And since I am incapable of teaching you to swim, how about we go ahead and hijack some cars. I saw a sweet Porsche down the ways. You're a little short, but I'm sure we can find a booster seat or something." As we walked out of the ally, he picked up a crumbling brick, "Steerings real easy once you get the hang of it."
