When Thia and Kai re-entered the living area, they were enveloped by excited murmurs and annoyed guests. People were whispering and it became clear that they were impatiently waiting for a chance to go home. The party was clearly over, and not just for the two longtime neighbors. Both felt the looks of the guys and girls on them, full of anger and frustration. You could hear them talking about the interruption of the party and the dark hours.
And all the while, the hostess wanted to explain the situation as quickly as possible.
Or get rid of the people as soon as possible. But to her misfortune, it was Sangheon's group of friends, of all people, who stormed toward the two teenagers.
Thia had hoped never to see this boy again.
"What the fuck is going on here? You guys pulling some creepy stunt?" asked a snarky boy with an Australian accent. His thick eyebrows twitched with excitement and he looked like he had been in a cage for several hours.
Which, from the looks of it, had been the case, the guests apparently didn't know. They just seemed to complain that the lights and music were out.
"N-no," Thia stuttered, but her gaze moved on to Sangheon, who wore a casual smile on his lips.
He even went so far as to put a hand on his buddy's shoulder to reassure him. "It was just a power outage after all, maybe she was too busy with someone new to notice right away."
Immediately, Kai took a step forward. His eyes narrowed to slits and he looked bitterly at Sangheon. It was written all over his face how much this statement bothered him. Especially because it came out of Sangheon's mouth after he had spread such lies. He felt the heat rising because of his anger. "It would be better if you shut your mouth now," Kai hissed at him.
"And then what?" retorted Sangheon provocatively, taking a step toward Kai. His eyes sparkled with challenge.
The tension between them was palpable. The guests below held their breath and formed an imaginary arena around the two young men. It was a silent battle of looks in which they measured and challenged each other.
They now faced each other, ready to settle their differences in their own way. The room was filled with an ominous silence.
But Thia put her hand on Kai's arm and shook her head. Her touch was warm and gentle, but her gesture signaled halt and restraint. Sangheon would certainly not give in, much less admit that he had lied. So it was unnecessary to pick a fight, even if she appreciated Kai's desire to defend her. "It's okay, Sangheon isn't wrong," Thia agreed in surprise, precisely because she had been ready to kiss Kai after kissing Sangheon. "I quickly realized through him who might be the right one ..."
The looks of those present alternated between confusion and curiosity. Kai felt his heart beat faster as he looked intently at Thia, trying to figure out her thoughts. It quickly became apparent that this was not about a cockfight, but about hurt, but also newly explored feelings. So many unspoken emotions were in the air, running through the room like an electric current.
