Chapter 25: The Imprint and the Confrontation
Two days passed in a quiet, expectant vigil. The entire family—Cullens, Volturi, and wizards alike—waited for Bella to open her eyes.
"Do you think it's a good idea to tell Bella about Jacob imprinting on Renesmee?" Draco asked, breaking the silence in the parlor. "Especially since he already nicknamed her after the Loch Ness Monster?"
The room went dead silent. Several of the younger wizards tried to hide their grins, while the older vampires winced. Jacob sat in the corner, his skin turning a pale, ghostly white as he stared at the floor in sheer terror.
Jasmine shrugged, looking at the young wolf. "It doesn't matter if we tell her or not; she will see the bond herself. Imprinting is simply the shape-shifter equivalent of a vampire soulmate. It is a biological bond of absolute protection. Jacob will feel compelled to watch over Renesmee, and Bella will inevitably notice."
Jasmine turned a slow, warning look toward Jacob, her green eyes flashing with a dangerous, ancient light. Jacob instantly shuddered, trying to hide his large frame behind Felix, who also froze under Jasmine's gaze.
"You, Jacob Black, had better treat my niece with the utmost respect," Jasmine said, her voice dropping to a terrifyingly sweet register. "I may dislike unnecessary violence, but when it comes to my family, I have no problem getting creative. Do you understand me?"
"Y-yes," Jacob stammered quickly.
"Wonderful," Jasmine beamed, her demeanor instantly turning cheerful once more, leaving the surrounding vampires to marvel at her terrifying mood swings.
A sudden shift in the air signaled that Bella's transition was complete. She stepped into the room, her eyes a brilliant, newborn crimson, her movements graceful and fluid. She smiled warmly at Jasmine before her eyes locked onto her daughter, Renesmee, who was cradled in Jasmine's arms.
Jasmine gently handed the baby to Bella. The moment Renesmee was in her mother's arms, the tiny girl reached up, placing a warm hand against Bella's cheek. A silent, beautiful projection of Renesmee's first memories flashed directly into Bella's mind.
"What was that?" Bella whispered, looking at her daughter in awe.
"She showed you her memory of you," Edward explained softly. "She's gifted, Bella. Just as Alice can see the future, and Master Aro can read minds with a touch, Renesmee can project her thoughts through physical contact."
"I've only been asleep for two days?" Bella asked, noting the baby's advanced development.
"Her growth rate is exactly as the texts predicted," Carlisle assured her. "She is perfectly healthy."
Jacob stepped forward, looking incredibly nervous as he reached for the baby. "Alright, that's enough experimenting for one day. Let's not push her."
Edward stepped in, his expression amused. "Jacob, she is doing perfectly fine."
"Yeah, but let's keep it easy," Jacob mumbled, his eyes darting around the room.
Bella's eyes narrowed, her newborn instincts picking up on his strange, defensive behavior. "What is your problem, Jacob?"
"Oh, do tell her, Jacob," Rosalie taunted from the doorway.
"This should be highly entertaining," Emmett smirked.
Jasmine shook her head with a smile, leaning back against Caius, Theo, and Athenodora, who wrapped their arms around her waist.
Edward gently took Renesmee from Bella's arms, handing her back to Jasmine.
"Look, Bella, it's a wolf thing," Jacob stammered, backing away slowly as Bella's posture grew rigid. "We have no control over it. It doesn't mean what you think, I promise."
"Take Renesmee out of the room," Bella commanded, her voice dropping to a low, dangerous growl.
Knowing the storm that was about to hit, Jasmine quickly guided Draco, Severus, Luna, Neville, the twins, Lucius, and Narcissa out of the main room, casting a powerful soundproofing charm over the nursery door once they were safely inside.
Outside on the lawn, Bella confronted Jacob. "You imprinted on my daughter?!"
"It's not like that!" Jacob yelled, backing up against a tree. "Do you think Edward would let me live if it was?"
"I'm still debating it," Edward called out from the porch.
Jasmine, watching from the balcony, slipped off her shoe and tossed it at Edward's head. He caught it, mouthing a quick 'sorry' before turning back to his wife.
"I've held her exactly once, Jacob!" Bella yelled, shoving him hard enough to send him skidding across the dirt. "And you already think you have some sort of claim on her? She is mine!"
Two giant wolves—Leah and Seth—burst from the trees, growling defensively, but Jacob waved them off. "It's fine, Leah! Stay back!" He turned back to Bella. "Bella, do you remember how much you wanted me around these past few weeks? That's gone now, right?"
"Completely gone," Bella hissed.
"Because it was her," Jacob explained softly. "From the very beginning, it was Nessie who wanted me here."
Bella froze, her eyes flashing with pure newborn rage. "Nessie?! YOU NICKNAMED MY DAUGHTER AFTER THE LOCH NESS MONSTER?!"
Before Bella could lung at him again, Jasmine stepped between them, her magic flaring gently to separate the two. "Bella, that is enough."
Bella looked at her, her crimson eyes filled with frustration. "Jasmine, he imprinted on your niece!"
"I know," Jasmine said softly, placing a comforting hand on her arm. "But at least you have her here, safe and healthy. Renesmee will grow up knowing Jacob as a protector and a friend, and when she is old enough, she will make her own choices. The bond is unbreakable, but your role as her mother is absolute. Don't waste this beautiful time fighting."
Bella let out a long, shuddering sigh. She glared at Jacob one last time before turning to follow Jasmine back up the stairs. She wrapped her arms around Jasmine, leaning into the hug. "I just got her back. I don't want to lose her."
"You won't," Jasmine promised, rubbing her back. "Now, let's go see our little girl."
