Chapter 1- Bejeweling again

Taylor's POV

I open my eyes and take a deep breath before sitting in my lonely bed. It's the opening day of The Eras tour, my most important tour yet, and I can't believe I'm waking up on this day all alone.

Joe and I broke up a few weeks ago. We were distant, cold, and everytime we were together it's like there was an elephant in the room, so we sat together that painful night and decided to end our story before we ended up hurt.

Since I knew Joe I knew he was the love of my life, but love wasn't enough. I still love him, I'm pretty sure he still loves me, but I couldn't give up on public appearances anymore, and Joe didn't want to be there with me, so I realized we couldn't be together. I understand his desire to be out of the public eye, but I missed the public eye during the whole pandemic time. I miss my fans so bad... I can't force him to be a celebrity, but I certainly can't give up on my career or even hang out with friends just to be with him, so we concluded our time was over.

I'm doing great most of the time. The tour rehearsals occupied my mind and during the day, when I'm socializing, I'm okay. The night is the problem. Sleeping alone hurts after a relationship where you used to see the other as a constant in your life. But we did what we had to.

Our decision shocked pretty much everyone, but it's for the better and I'll always be here for his family, whenever they need.

I brush my teeth and wash my face before looking for my phone. I text mom:

Mom, are you awake?

Yes, honey, we are waiting for you in our room.

Okay, I'm gonna change and we can go.

Dad, Austin, Claire and mom are the reason why I didn't freak out after this heartbreak. Claire is still a goofball borderline genius who's about to turn 12 yo next month. This reminds me that I have to do something for her between shows. Every birthday must be celebrated whatever is the age.

At this point she's used to being papped in NY or LA when she's there for me and is really charismatic. We think she's gonna end up in the cinema or theater industry sooner or later but we didn't bring this up for now, we are waiting for her to manifest it first. Of course she is extremely talented in music but she seems to have music as a hobby.

I get out of my room and press the ring bell on the neighboring room.

- Hi mom!- I hug her.- Good morning.

- Good morning, babe. How are you feeling today?

- I'm excited. A little lonely, but I'm happy that I get to see my fans again.

Claire gets out of the bathroom.

- I'm ready, mom! - she says, spinning in her cute floral dress. Then, she sees me. - Morning, T!

- Good morning, beauty. Ready for another tour?

- You know I am! Mom, have you decided about my request?

- Not yet, baby. I'll tell you when I'm ready.

Claire's smile drops and she rolls her eyes in a suddenly bad mood.

I sent a question glance at mom but she just mouths me "later".

- Time to go, everyone grabs one cat. We are going to stop at Starbucks on the way to order some breakfast. - Mom says and I can barely contain a laugh knowing she's doing this before Claire throws a teenage tantrum.
