Chapter 13: The Gryffindor Common Room
Snape's P.O.V
I watched as the first year students entered the Great Hall, searching for one in particular. I met Violet's gaze and she smiled. The locket glowed brightly. They all lined up along the steps, but Violet never broke her stare. A few students were sorted and then a name was called that caught my attention.
"Lily Lovegood,"Minerva said. I looked away from Violet to see the girl. She had long blonde hair and her blue eyes sparkled in excitement. I looked back at Violet as the hat sorted her into Ravenclaw, but she never met my gaze. Stupid, stupid! I scolded myself. She probably hates me now. Great job, Severus. Violet was called and I could see her shaking with nervousness. I tried to send her a mind message. 'I'm sorry. I'm sorry, please forgive me.' She never looked once, except when the hat yelled 'Gryffindor.' Wow. It was just like Lily. As Potter was sorted, I noticed her trying to catch my eye, but guiltily. Her locket had stopped glowing. Oh no. That wasn't good. The meal continued, but I hardly touched my food. I had to fix this. But how?
Violet's P.O.V
The warmness I felt when the locket glowed faded as Percy led us to some huge staircases. There were tons of them and some of them even moved. Moving and talking portraits lined the walls. We climbed staircases until we reached a portrait of a fat lady in a dress.
"Password?" She asked.
"Caput Draconis," Percy replied. The portrait swung open to reveal the common room. It was warm and cozy, and had red and gold walls with portraits on them. A fireplace sat nearby, and a red couch and 2 red chairs surrounded it. Tables and chairs sat in random places in the room, and notice boards were hung too. Percy stood in front of a staircase.
" Welcome to the Gryffindor common room. Now, the boys dormitory is up the stairs to your left,"Percy said. "Girls, same to your right. You'll find that all your belongings have already been brought up."
Upstairs was just as cozy as down. I settled into bed, but couldn't sleep. Did Severus still like me or did he like the other girl more? I gripped the non- glowing locket and slowly drifted into an uneasy, restless sleep.
