Chapter 20: The Invisibility Cloak

The next day was Christmas.

"HARRY, WAKE UP!" Ron shouted from downstairs. "COME ON, YOU GUYS! WAKE UP!!"

I scrambled out of bed and met Harry at the balcony overlooking the common room.

"Happy Christmas, you guys!"Ron smiled.

"Happy Christmas, Ron," We smiled back.

"What are you wearing?" Harry asked.

"Oh," Ron said, fingering his maroon sweater with an R on it."Mum made it. Looks like you've got one too!"

"We've got presents!?"Harry exclaimed.

"Yeah!"Ron said.

We ran down and saw two packages wrapped in silvery packaging. Harry opened his and I opened mine. We emerged with some kind of cloaks with moons and stars on them.

"What is it?"Ron asked.

"Some kind of cloak,"I replied, and put it on. I watched as the cloak covered my body and it disappeared. Only my head was visible now.

"My body's gone!"Harry said.

"Whoa!"Ron cried. "I know what that is! That's an invisibility cloak!"

"We're invisible!?"I asked, turning around. This was cool.

"They're really rare,"Ron said. "I wonder who gave them to you?"

"There was no name,"Harry said. "It just said... use it well."

At night, we put the cloaks on again and crept down to the library. Harry carried a lantern in one hand, but nudged me with the other when we approached a door with the words 'Restricted Section' scrawled across the top. Harry slid the lock and pushed the door open. I followed him to the 'F' section, for Flamell, but we didn't find anything right away.

"Famous fire eaters.."Harry whispered, reading off the tittles. "Fifteenth century fiends... Flamell. Nicholas Flamell. Where are you?"

We set down our cloaks and Harry put the lantern on the desk. He pulled a book out and opened it. Suddenly, a face appeared between the pages and screamed. Harry slammed the book shut and quickly put it back.

"Who's there?"A rusty voice asked from a distance.

I whipped my cloak on and Harry did the same, knocking the lantern off the desk and sending it to the floor, where the glass shattered.

Filch, the caretaker, came into view.

"Who is it?"He asked. "Show yourself!"

His hoarse breathing echoed in the library shelves and we ran off into the hallway. We turned the corner to see Severus pushing Quirrell into a wall.

"Severus, I... I..."Quirrell stuttered.

"You don't want me as your enemy, Quirrell,"Severus growled.

"I... don't... what do you... mean?"Quirrell asked.

"You know perfectly well what I mean,"Severus said.

He whipped around, and raised his free hand into the air in our direction. I covered my mouth to silence my breathing as he swiped his hand and almost grabbed Harry's cloak. He starred in our direction for a moment, but then turned back to Quirrell.

"We'll have another little chat soon,"Severus finished. "Maybe by then you can decide where your loyalties lie.."

"Professors,"Filch said, approaching them. He held up Harry's lantern. "I found this in the Restricted Section. It's still hot. It means that a student is out of bed!"

They ran after him. We were safe. For now.
