Luke had been awoken from his sleep, he turned to the side and founded the naked fairy laying on his hat, and his scarf to act as a blanket. He sighed as he turned his front to face the grey sky, and then he thinked to himself.
"I need to find this nearby Village Duncan has been talking about..." Luke mumbled to himself as he turned to the side, Duncan was still sleeping peacefully, he himself turned to the side to have a more comfortable sleeping position. Luke giggled as he towered over him and then he quietly shouts, "Wake up, Duncan! Today's a new day!" Even if that was a quiet shout, to Duncan, that felt a bit loud as he groaned and looked at Luke's dark brown eyes.
He scanned up and down the boy's face, "What?" He groaned, "Oh, come on! Can't you see the colour of the sky? I think it's about to rain. And it will be great if we get going to the Village." He stopped towering over the fairy as he sat there with his hands on his hips, "Maybe later..." Duncan rolled over as he made himself more warmer and comfortable with the other boy's scarf on his body. "I'll make you warm clothes as promised." Luke crossed his arms with a smirk smile.
Duncan sat up as he groaned yet again, "Fine. But just for the sake of warm clothes." He started to flap his back wings and started to float in the air, Luke looked at the fairy in awe, "So... Are we goin' or are we not?", "We will. I just have to put out the fire so the woods can't have some sort of forest fire." Luke said as he put out the fire and put on his hat and tying a scarf around his neck.
"And now, we are ready to go." Luke giggled as he started to walk. "Can ya hold me in your hands?" Duncan asked, a little embarassed. This resulted in Luke turning his head back in confusion. Did he heard that correctly? "No?" Duncan asked as he tilted his head a little, "Do you really want me to hold you in my hands? It's not like you get tired by flapping your wings." Luke said in an annoyed tone, "Hey!" Duncan gasped when he said that, "I also get tired when i flap my wings! Plus, it's cold and i'm naked!" Duncan protested, making Luke chuckled a little. "Maybe we can get you some clothes." Luke offered. "As if there's a tailor where they make clothes for dolls..." Duncan mummured to himself.
Luke let out a little "oh" as he realized his mistake, "Maybe we just have to keep you hidden in my arms afterall..." Luke said to himself. He can't have anyone see the mythical fae just casual following him, according to his mother, some faes can be really mean as sirens. "Nah," Replied duncan, "I want to be in your pockets. That way, i'll have some air to breath." He sighs. "Yeah, it'll look suspicious anyways. People will think what i was hiding in my hands." Luke shot back.
But in the background, there were something watching over the sage green boy. A beautiful white doe watching in the background, perfectly blending in with the snow. Her eyes red like roses in the snow and sharp as a blade. She looked at the boy and the fairy as they walked into the village before the doe skipped back.
A few hours later, Luke and Duncan arrived at the village. It felt very welcoming and cheery, even if it was a sturggling time of the year. Many people were still working at this time, and some went to work, some children also played in the snow, throwing snowballs and building snowmen.
"What a lovely village." Luke took in a deep breath as he saw how this little town could be a nice place to start a new life despite his young age. He took a look at the food that was there. They look so nice, even the smell was also good to the point where it got stuck in Luke's head. Even Duncan melted inside of Luke's pocket.
Duncan's stomach began to rumbled, "Hey, kid. Why don't ya buy some bread?" He shot up at the kid, "Wait. Don't tell me ya didn't even bought a bit of shillings with you?" Luke chuckled awkwardly, even if he didn't see it, he could tell that Duncan was face palming inside of the pocket of his coat.
Duncan growled, "How unprepared can ya be?!" He scolded, Luke then took a look at the other pocket and founded a couple of shillings. "I have a few shillings. We could buy some food for the night." Even if Luke tried to stay positive, Duncan scoffed. "Yeah, for just a night." He scowled, Luke stammered at his fairy friend, "W-Well, look on the bright side! Atleast we have something to eat." He looked over a bread store, his shillings weren't enough. He looked at another store, still wasn't enough.
As the boys were starting to starve to death, he founded a bakery. The smell from the bakery was alluring the men to come inside, as if it was a siren calling out for a sailor. Luke opened the door and Duncan made sure to hid himself in his pocket.
"Welcome!" A man with red hair and a warm and welcoming smiled greeted the timid boy. "How may i- no. How may we help you?" He asked, his hands on his hips. Inside of the bakery were three other people. One was cleaning up, one was putting the leftover goods somewhere else, and one was watching them do the job. Another man that was watching the two others looked at Luke with a sorry expression, "Sorry, but i'm afraid we're closing." He said. His hair is also red just like the man that greeted him, "You have to come tomorrow, boy."
"I-I'm just here to buy just a loaf of bread..."
"It's too late for that now." The man that put away the goods shot up.
"Please? I haven't eaten a thing since this morning." He pleaded, "I'm starving..." Luke mumbled quietly.
"And how come haven't you aten a thing since the dawn?" The man that looked like the other man that greeted him asked. Luke stuttered, he tried to make up an excuse on the spot. If he said that he ran away, for sure these men will take him back to his mother. "Well..." He looked down at his pockets where duncan layed there, he wanted him to help him make an excuse, but the fae shrugged to no use. "I... I have no where to go." Everyone in the bakery looked at him, they feel like he was telling them a story.
Lulu swallowed the lump of saliva down his throat before speaking again, "I ran away from home. Please don't send me back to my hometown. My mother... She forbids me to go outside and makes me stay indoors for my whole life. I have no friends and no other families i could go to." He decided to tell the truth in hopes that these men would believe in him and not send him back to his mother, "She... She also pressures me to do good in school. I once got a bad grade... It was a 7 out of 10. And she made me sleep out that night and made me study even more. My mom also controls on who should i be friends with. I didn't manage to make one friend in those years, hence why i'm so lonely." Luke took a big sigh, Duncan eventually started to listen to his life story as well, "Due to my loneliness... I began to read books about history and became interested in it. But, mother said i should study more useful things in life than the past. I couldn't take it any longer and i ran away. And now i'm homeless with some fairy!"
Luke didn't mean to spill the beans, and he now felt sorry for Duncan. But the fairy just facepalmed himself.
"What? A fairy?!" The employee with the green shirt underneath a white apron said in shock and suprise, "You-You saw a fairy and took it with you?!" The one with the blue shirt said. The one that greeted Luke stepped in closer to him, "May we see this fairy of your's?" He asked. Luke sighed, not sure if he should reveal his secret. He looked down and saw Duncan nodding, "But you're naked!" Luke whispered to Duncan, "Psh! I'm okay with men looking at my body!" Duncan said.
Duncan then flew up and flapped his wings to the people around the bakery. Everyone was in awe."It really is a fairy!" The one who greeted Luke said, "What a miracle!" The other two said. The other red head looked in awe, "Well, looks like the myths were true of a fairy... Maybe i should start believing in myths and tales now that someone has proven to me and my friends that a fairy truly exists." He chuckled, "And as for you, young boy, since you said you have nowhere to live, you can stay in my home for as long as you need." He said as he reached out an arm for Luke to shake. Luke took his hand with no hesitation, "The name is Skarloey. This one that greeted you is my brother Rheneas, and the other two that are cleaning this place is Peter Sam and Handle. We usually call him Sir Handle." The other two waved you a hello.
"And you are?"
"I'm Luke. And the fairy is Duncan." Luke smiled warmly. Looks like his life will be undergoing a 180 degree turn afterall.
But in the distance, a white doe watched Luke with her sharp red eyes. Watching Luke's every movement before returning to the forest... Or Luke's hometown...
