Thomas really wants to be in the great race. He really does! But, due to work, he can't go. It's sad, but even if he got chosen, he won't even win this thing. It'll go in every wrong way possible, to the point of bust my buffers and cinders and ashes are let out every five seconds.
Being out of the race felt like being stuck in a class with a boring lesson while the next class had free time.
Earlier this morning, at the docks, he stumbled upon a locomotive from India. The blue tank engine didn't think of anything about her, but when he looked at her face, and those bright colours under the sun, he was stunned by her beauty.
That was morning. At this moment, it's the evening. His outfit got stained in white and green paint. The colour combination is decent, but it was executed horribly. He was nothing like the girl right next to him.
Beautiful.
"Why did you wanted to repaint yourself, Thomas?" Ashima. Her name was Ashima, "I don't know..." Thomas looked into the big lake. His reasoning felt embarassing to even think about it. How could an ordinary tank engine could be as breathtaking as a locomotive as Ashima?
This bridge also holds quite the memory for his friends. It was the bridge that James fell when trying to save Gordon. He chuckles but turns back into a stoic emotion.
"I guess i just wanted to be like you."
"Be like me?" Ashima repeated.
"Yeah. Like you... So colourful and big..." Thomas looked to the side and saw that the girl staring into the horizon of a sunset, not noticing that the black haired boy was staring at her.
Ashima's dress flowed softly againts the winds, and so does her hair. She looked like a girl from a painting, just animated.
"You should be yourself." Ashima suggested. Thomas sighed, "Being myself is like wishing on a shooting star. It's not enough." He replied, the girl then motioned her face to the side and saw the petite boy right beside him.
"Honestly, anyone, oh, please! Take me apart and reassemble me into a more greater version of myself!" Thomas ranted. If he could, he could just screamed that line out if he wanted to.
Ashima giggled, "I've been there, Thomas. I didn't believe in myself, and i tried to be like a clone of someone so great..."
"But, i soon realised that this is our life. Not someone else's. You should live the life you've envisioned." She added.
Thomas looked into the reflection of himself in the water. The paint on his clothing was visible, still. Maybe he should be himself... Just like this girl said.
The great railway show. It really was an event.
Thomas was celebrating with his friends, they were mentioning how great he was in the show. He looked back, expecting to see his new friend, but she was nowhere to be found.
She's gone...
He thought to himself. He looked around and eventually founded her about to leave. Her human form is just as lovely as her train form. Thomas thought.
"Ashima, wait!" Thomas ran to her, panting when he got near her. "Thomas? What's wrong?" After the race, her human form is somehow messy. Her lovely coat of paint didn't get a scratch from the race, and yet her hair was messy and so was her floral patterned dress, all ruffled up.
"Where are you going?" The black head asked, "I'm going to the docks. I want to go home." Ashima replied.
Thomas sadly sighed as he thought about how his new friend is going away so soon. "So soon?" Ashima chuckled, "I'm afraid so..." She smiled, but there was also a sense of sadness behind that smile.
"Will i ever see you again?"
The words hits hard to Ashima's boiler. If only she could spend more than one day with him. Thomas was the first genuine friend she had. Why leave him now?
"I... I don't know." She looked into Thomas' hazel eyes, "Though, just because it's a slim chance, it doesn't mean there's no chance we meet again." Ashima reassured him.
Thomas smiled, "Yeah... Good point. But, it'll be a long time before we can meet eachother again." He frowned once again as he looked into the orange sky turning to black. "Would you like to have a nice race to the docks? It's the least i can do." Ashima offered. Thomas felt happy when he heard the word race. "Oh, it's on!" Thomas turned into his train form and skedaddled away, "Hey! No fair!" Ashima laughs it off as she catches off with Thomas.
At the docks, Ashima's ship is already waiting for her and many other engines that participated in the show.
"This is a wondeful day, Thomas." Ashima started, "Remember to be yourself, okay?" She reminded the blue tank engine. "I will..." Thomas took a deep breath, this was their final moment together. Ashima went on the ship, but she went back and kissed Thomas on the cheek before going back to the ship.
She waved goodbye to him, "Bye, Thomas!" She shouted.
And with a heavy heart, Thomas let Ashima go back to India. He know's one day, they will meet again eventually.
Just eventually.
