The next day, as Aemond had promised, he finished his sword exercises and lessons in record time. He had been so excited that night that it had been difficult for him to fall asleep.
Once he had got rid of his septa, who surely by his mother's orders had sent him more exercises than usual, he went straight to his sister's chambers.
Everyone that looked at him could see the skip in his step, their prince who usually was timid and serious had come out of his shell a little bit.

When he arrived at his sister's chambers he waited for the guard to announce him and stepped in the moment he heard Rhaenyra's voice telling him to enter.

"Good morn,  babe?" The first thing that he wanted to know was if she was alright.

"Good morn to you too Aemond," It was not a surprise for Rhaenyra the interest his brother showed for her daughter. He had seen that look before, the look of yearness.
"She's pretty good. She's slept through the night without making much of a fuss and I think you've come at the right time, she's just woken up."

At that moment he ran to her side and peeked into the crib right next to the chair that Rhaenyra was currently sitting at.

Shiera was lying on her back and let out a giggle when she felt Aemond taking her hand in his. He laughed at this and looked towards Rhaenyra to see if he was doing it well.
When he visited his brother Daeron at the nursery tha nanny's often complained about his excitement and unprincely behavior.
But his sister just got up and held the baby in her arms as she made way to the chaise. Motioning him to sit at her side and holding her out for him.

"Sit back and put your hand behind her head" She instructed.

Aemond did as he was told and finally let out the breath he was holding when he felt Shiera in his arms.

"Pretty," He couldn't hold in the excitement and smiled brightly at his sister.

Rhaenyra thought at that moment that maybe her new siblings weren't so bad and that they weren't to blame for Alicent's actions.
She would never forgive her, and even less after her behavior last night at Shiera's court appearance, but the kids weren't to blame for the wrongs of the adults.
And more specifically of the actions carried out by Otto Hightower with the intention of sitting Aegon on the throne.

"Yes, pretty. But fragile," She answered, trying to explain to his baby brother the situation. "Someone has got to protect her now, this world is cruel to people like her"

"I protect Era" Aemond declared. He knew that it was his mission to protect Shiera and was looking forward to spending the rest of his life at her side. "Mine"

They stayed like that until a maid from the queen arrived informing the prince of his mother calling for him.

"Goodbye Era, goodbye Nyra" He said once he passed the baby to her mother.

"Goodbye Aemond," Rhaenyra said, feeling a little sad for her brother. "Maybe tomorrow you could come and visit again"

"Really?" Aemon's face lit up at the prospect of another morning spent in the company of his sister and his niece.

"Really, and if you want you could bring your siblings too" It felt good, to have someone other than Laenor and to be Harwin with her, keeping her company.

At that, Aemond's face soured a little, but he didn't say anything for fear his sister would get angry and not allow him to see Shiera again.

Making haste so as not to anger her mother,he nodded and kissed her sister on the cheek before starting on his way to the queen chambers.
