The doors to the Great Hall opened and the guard at the door announced the arrival of his sister and her family.

"Her Royal Highness princess Rhaenyra Targaryen, lord Laenor Velaryon and princess Shiera Velaryon your grace"

The first time Aemond saw Shiera was at her presentation before the court. She was bundled in blankets and gave off a feeling of fragility that none of his siblings or cousins did. It was when his father picked her in his arms that he learned of her condition

With his father seated at the throne and little Shiera in his arms he and his siblings surrounded the king, hoping to get a glimpse of their new niece.

"She looks just like Aemma," The comparison by her father made Rhaenyra smile sadly at him. At that he took her hand in his for a moment before congratulating her "Well done my girl"

Aegon, being the tallest and older of the three of them, was the first of the children to see and ask about her eyes.

"What's wrong with her eyes? They're strange" And because his brother had as little tact as he had swordsmanship he kept going until his father decided he had said enough.

"Enough Aegon!" His father was a calm man, never one to lose his temper. But the way Aegon talked about his granddaughter in front of all the court made him want to silence him before he said something that allowed the vicious members of his court to gossip.

"She is blind Aegon, she can't see" Rhaenyra explained softly. She considered that his father had been a little hard on his son who had just recently reached 7 summers.

Aegon nodded and stepped away to let Aemond see better what he had been talking about.
What Aemond first saw when he peeked was a clump of the whitest hair that he had seen and a pair of violet eyes. They were clouded, as he had expected when he heard of her condition. But unlike the people who surrounded him and mourned the loss the princess had suffered, he saw what they did not. The reason for his existence. There was something that changed in him when he saw her. What Aegon once told him about the connection between a dragon and its rider came to his mind.
That feeling of having something and not wanting anyone to take it away from you.

"Pretty. Hold her?" At the look of admiration and eagerness Rhaenyra almost gave in but having given birth just mere hours ago she was starting to feel tired and wanted to go back to her quarters.

"Maybe tomorrow if you finish your chores fast you could come to see her for a little bit" With that being said she sent a look to Laenor indicating for him to take their daughter from her fathers arms. That married couple then made their way to their quarters.

The moment they left the Great Hall the rumors about Shiera's paternity began. She didn't have her fathers warm color and instead was as pale as snow making more than one believe that her birth was not the result of the union between princess Rhaenyra and ser Laenor Velaryon.

And the Queen, who had stood to one side watching it all with a feeling of disgust for her new granddaughter, withdrew to her chambers, intending to make it clear that she was not happy about the new addition to the family.
