Driftmark

As the time for the punishments approached, someone walked towards the king's chambers.

Daemon knew that no one would have the courage to stop him from visiting his brother. And even less knowing that there were less than two hours left for their daughters to receive their punishments.

As he neared the doors to the chambers he didn't bother to knock or announce himself. He was Viserys' brother, and as such, he had the right to enter his chambers without causing a ruckus.

When he entered, the first thing he saw was his brother seated on the windowsill. His eyes were closed and he looked as if he had aged ten years in the short time they had been in Driftmark.

Trying to make as little noise as possible so as not to disturb him, she approached and sat next to him.

The view from the window was beautiful. The waves beat against the ravines and the noise of the island filtered through the small crack in the window that his brother had left open.
Dragons could be seen flying through the sky while chasing each other. The inhabitants of the island are already accustomed thanks to the dragon of Rhaenys.

"Do you remember what you told me before after the funeral?" Daemon said as he looked at his brother.

"I do," Viserys replied. He knew exactly what he was referring to. And he was not going to give up. "And I know what you're going to ask of me. But I'm afraid I can't do anything. The sentence is about to be carried out. And as king I can't go back on my word."

He had promised Daemon anything for him to return to King's Landing. But he was unable to grant this to him.

His own wife and daughter had agreed. Even the girls' grandparents. If he remembered correctly, even Daemon had remained silent at the time of giving his sentence. It seemed that for once in his life Daemon had tried not to contradict him in front of court.

As he had just seen, even after being exiled so many times, Daemon put the good of Viserys before everything else.

Obviously this didn't mean that he agreed to the sentence. He was now pleading for his daughter's punishment to be lowered.
His wife had just passed away and making their kids face this punishment so soon would surely make the Velaryons hate him more. He couldn't afford to have them against him.
Losing an eye was a terrible thing. And although it seemed like just a punishment fit for anyone else, Rhaenys didn't like it.
Now he was trying to make things right. To guarantee the support of his dead wife's house.

"Maybe instead of taking Rhaena's eye she could be whipped as her sister. It's too harsh a punishment for a little girl. And you know Rhaenys would never forgive me if something happened to them." He insisted.

"I understand everything you are saying but it is my son who has lost an eye." Viserys said already a bit frustrated. He was trying to impart justice. "My little one is the one who is suffering right now. And not only that. Shiera depended on Aemond's vision. He is her eyes. And now she has lost her vision again."

He didn't want to show favoritism towards certain members of his family but it was something stronger than him. Every time he looked at Shiera he couldn't help but see his beloved Aemma. And when he looked at Aemond he saw himself reflected in his son. At the love that could be seen in his eyes when he looked at her. In the way he listened attentively to every word that came out of her lips.
Seeing them suffering was something he couldn't bear. Therefore, although he would like not to be in charge of making these decisions, he had sought the justice they deserved.

Daemon remained silent for a moment. He tried to find some other way to fix the situation without affecting family relations too much.

And, although he had spent much of the night thinking about something, nothing seemed fair enough for both parties.

Turning to look at his brother's tired face he was forced to face reality. He couldn't do anything at the moment. He couldn't do something reckless now. Not if he wanted to protect his daughter and Rhaenyra. He knew that now that he wasn't married, he wanted to wed Rhaenyra. To be a family once and for all.

Obviously they would need to take care of Laenor first but that was something he would think about later.

"All right brother." He conceded. "But I want something in return. A favor you won't refuse."

At the look in Daemon's eyes Viserys was afraid of the future favor. It might not be a good idea to grant his brother something as important as a favor from the king. But if he wanted everything to end as soon as possible, he had no choice.

"Ok Daemon." He said as he took his brother's hand in his. "I promise you that it will be granted. Anything you want. And as I asked, you will return to King's Landing"

With the problem more or less solved, Viserys gave his hand a squeeze.

Just at that moment the hand was announced. He had come to finalize the last details of the punishments.

When Otto entered the chamber, the last thing he expected was to find the rogue prince inside.
He supposed that he would be together with his beloved niece and daughter.

"Your Grace, your highness" He greeted as he made his way to the king and prince. "I see that you are not with your offspring"

Understanding perfectly what Otto was referring to, Daemon couldn't help but smirk at the gall the Hightower cunt had.
Obviously with his brother present he wasn't going to say anything but he would make sure to make him pay for his insinuations. He knew the hand of the king was thirsty for power. Otto wanted to overthrow Rhaenyra and put Aegon on the throne, so he wouldn't do anything to help him.
He didn't hate his nephew, he knew how much Rhaenyra loved all her siblings. But that didn't mean that he thought Aegon fit to reign. And even less if he was controlled by his cunt of a grandsire.

"I thought it was convenient to have a little talk with my brother before the punishments were carried out." He said calmly. " I was worried for my daughters. Something that I would say you are familiar with if I didn't remember how you prostituted yours some years ago."

"Daemon! Enough!" Viserys said alarmed at the way his brother talked about his second wife in front of her father.

He knew his brother and his hand didn't like each other but he wished that at least behaved a little more civilized.

"Of course brother." Daemon said as he smiled at the look on Otto's face. "Then I will be taking my leave, Your Grace. I will see you later."

He gave his brother a nod and turned towards Otto. He smirked a last time as he exited the chambers without another word. Ignoring the hand's presence as if he was a mere annoying fly that flitted around trying to find shit to feed on.

As he walked away from the room, he couldn't make a comment out of everyone's ears. He hated that man more and more and it wouldn't be long before he turned up dead in some corner of the Red Keep.

"Cunt"
