That was a week ago. One week since the news broke. One week since school went on break for winter and mourning period. One week and two days since she'd seen Jinx, or talked to her.
Although she'd always been confident the Queen would die from her condition, she didn't expect it so soon, or to care so much.
It's not that she cared about the Queen herself, they'd never been friendly on any level, and she hated the Crownguards as much as they hated Kirammans. Though Lux did admire that she'd let her daughter marry a woman. Maybe a different, less crude woman would've been better to marry her daughter. But who was she to judge, hanging out with Jinx.
Jinx was the obvious reason she cared about the situation at all.
Jinx knew Cassandra would die too, smart enough to not believe the false hope everyone was trying to give her. But, like most of everyone, when it really happened, Lux assumed, it was worse than she ever could've imagined.
There were statements from all of the Kirammans but Jinx. Even Caitlyn, her actual daughter, appeared on television to make a statement through tears. Online people were either busy sending their condolences or asking when Jinx would give her statement.
The first few days, Lux wasn't sure what to do.
She would be staying in England till Christmas Eve, when she'd go back home to spend the holiday with her family. Of course, she had to give her own statement, pre recorded with lots of fake tears, saying how much she'd be missed and how great she was. She really hoped Jinx didn't watch it, she'd know it was all lies.
After a few days of consideration, she texted Jinx again, still having no reply to the last text. It took her a while to come up with a text, having no experience actually expressing that she felt bad for someone who's just lost their mother. Fake mother, but it seemed to be no different to Jinx.
Most of her ideas for things to say didn't feel right. 'It's not the end of the world' was too cold, and passive aggressive. 'I'm sorry for your loss' was too basic and thoughtless. She tried Googling some examples, but it was all garbage.
In the end, she decided on 'if you need or want anything, text me."
It wasn't some beautiful paragraph that would make her feel better in the slightest, but that's all Lux could come up with. She wished she could write something better for her. Everything had probably already been said in some way though. At least she could offer whatever she could give.
Again, she was left on seen, which she saw coming. If Jinx wouldn't text while Cassandra was nearing death, she certainly wouldn't now.
Being cooped up in her room, with her sister and sisters wife who were also mourning being the only company, Jinx was probably even more miserable. Lux knew she wasn't on great terms with her sister, though her and Caitlyn were getting along fine-ish.
