The end of the month arrived way sooner than Steve had expected. When Steve's friends approached him and asked how he had fared with the bet, Steve proudly announced he was pretty sure he had been successful, unaware of the amount hurt he had caused during the process.
As he went to find Eddie, he saw Eddie standing behind a wall and realized that Eddie had overheard everything it's not like he wasn't going to tell Eddie but he wanted to wait to tell him later not for him to figure it out like this. Eddie was hurt and angry that someone he had grown to trust had manipulated him for a bet but he also felt stupid for actually trusting Steve and even more stupid for falling for the asshole. Steve felt a deep sense of guilt and anguish for what he had done. He knew he had hurt someone who had trusted him, and it had nothing to do with a bet anymore when he went to try and talk to Eddie he would walk away or flip him off and Steve didn't know what to do.
Steve felt guilty for what he had done, he had hurt someone's feelings because of his pride because he wanted to prove himself to his stupid friends, and he knew that he couldn't undo the pain he caused Eddie. He learned a valuable lesson about how his actions can affect others and realized that he had to do something to make things right even if Eddie wouldn't forgive him.
