After the incident with Eddie, Steve felt miserable and empty and had a very difficult time moving on. He couldn't look at himself in the mirror because he was disgusted with what he had done. He knew deep down that he had crossed a line and that winning the bet wasn't worth what he had done to Eddie.

As time passed, Steve started to realize the gravity of his actions. He began to understand the pain he had caused Eddie, and how it must have felt to be humiliated in front of the idiots Steve called his friends and how terrible Eddie must have felt for actually letting his guard down for once and for it to be taken advantage of. Steve felt remorse  for what he did and knew that he needed to make things right, even though he knew that nothing could change what had happened.

He decided that the first step towards making things right was to apologize to Eddie. Steve wanted to show Eddie that he was genuinely sorry and wanted to regain his trust. He knew that it would take time and patience and it might not even be worth it in the end, but he was ready to put in the work if it ment he could have Eddie again.
