Jennifer's POV

This is too amazing beyond words. I recently just moved to Washington, D.C. to pursue my dream career. Growing up, I have always loved learning about history, it never failed to amaze me. And it has always been a dream of mine to visit Washington, D.C. to tour all the museums & see all the amazing sights. And now that I am 18 years old, I am honored to say that I got one of my dream jobs. I got a job in WASHINGTON, D.C.!!! I am a Program Director at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History in their Entertainment Nation exhibit. I moved to D.C. shortly after my 18th birthday, probably 4 months after. I've been working at this job for the past 2 weeks or so now, and I am loving every piece of it! As a Program Director, my job is to make sure that all guests in the exhibit are having a good job, and make sure that all exhibits are being taken care of. If you were to ask me about my favorite part in the exhibit, honestly, I cannot choose. I love every single bit of the exhibit. History is my ultimate favorite subject, so it never feels old to learn about the same stuff over & over again.

Besides history, one of my ultimate favorite things, is musical theatre. Ever since I was around 3 or 4 years old, I have always been admired by the idea of broadway shows and musical theatre. One of my ultimate favorite musicals to watch, is The Phantom of the Opera. After 8 months of living in Washington, D.C., the day has finally come, my birthday! It feels great being able to celebrate my 19th birthday here in D.C.! And I feel extra blessed because I happened to be off on my birthday! As per usual, I was scrolling through emails, checking to see if I had any important ones to focus on, and I happened to come across an email coming from, Lin-Manuel Miranda?! At first, I thought I was seeing things, and I was scared to open the email. But I took a risk, and went ahead and opened it. The email read,

*Good Afternoon Ms. Jennifer Gilbert. Let me start off by introducing myself. My name is Lin-Manuel Miranda. You may already know me from my previous works. I am shooting you this email because I was hoping to offer you something. I have been reviewing your resume & your previous works, and I am truly impressed with your background! Therefore, without further ado, let me get straight to the point. I am offering you the position to be Director for Hamilton: The Musical. Your work is truly remarkable, and it would be a true honor to have you a part of our Hamilton production team. There is no rush for you to answer. Please answer on your own time. Thank you for your time, hope to hear from you soon. Yours truly, Lin-Manuel Miranda.*

My mouth instantly dropped. I did not know what to say or how to react. I immediately called my parents to tell them the news. "Hey Mom, Dad, I have some GREAT news to tell you guys." I said as my parents answered the phone. "Hey sweetie, what's the news you have for us?" Mom replied. "So, I just happened to be going through my emails, and I came across one from, you won't believe it... Lin-Manuel Miranda!" I said. The line was silent for about 2 minutes. "My goodness, sweetie, that is so amazing, and such an honor! Did you respond to him yet?" Dad asked. "To be honest, no. I'm honestly not sure how I'd react. He told me to take my time when responding, no rush." I replied. "Do you want to take his offer? You just got the job in D.C." Dad said. "Ohh gosh, Dad. You know, it's been a dream of mine to be able to work on a musical, let alone a Broadway musical." I responded. "Oh my gosh, sweetie! I wouldn't waste any time! In a little bit, when we're done talking, go to that email & respond to him! Tell him that you're going to accept the offer. Your Dad and I would be so happy to see & watch you live your dream." Mom said. "Thank you guys, so much! I'll go ahead now, and respond to Mr. Miranda's email. Love you both!" I smiled. "We love you very much sweetie, enjoy your day!" Dad said as we hung up the call.

I can't believe this is really happening. Alongside Lin-Manuel Miranda, I'm going to be directing HAMILTON! This has been a true dream of mine since I was a little girl. Dreams really do come true!
