Jennifer's POV
Today is just another wonderful day in the beautiful Washington, D.C. After work tonight, I have a meeting at 7:00 pm with Lin-Manuel Miranda on Zoom to go over what my work schedule would potentially look like. I have about an hour or two until my shift is over, so I decided to walk around the vicinity of the exhibit to see if everyone is enjoying their time. There just happened to be a ton of kids around today because there are a bunch of field trips going on from out of town. It put such a huge smile on my face to see all the kids having a fun time & enjoying themselves. "I hope you guys are having a great time exploring today." I smiled. "We are, thank you very much." One kid replied. The time is now 4:00 pm, and my shift has finally ended. Before leaving, I made sure that everything looked tidy & clean before the closing manager comes & checks everything. Once I was finished, I went down to my locker and grabbed all my stuff. I wanted to be home before 7:00 pm so I wouldn't be late for my meeting tonight with Lin-Manuel Miranda! I decided to pick some dinner up before heading home. I went with one of the best Chinese food restaurants in the area. They have some of the best shrimp lo mein & crab rangoons in town! By the time I got home, it was 6:00 pm, so I had just enough time to get ready for my meeting!
I went ahead & ate my dinner before I changed into my casual outfit for the meeting. I set up my computer & waited until it was time for the meeting to start. Fun fact: growing up, my grandpa would always play the song "What a Wonderful World" by Louis Armstrong. That song has always had a significant meaning to me, so I played that song while waiting. Next thing I knew, it was now 7:00 pm, and the meeting has now started! (AN - I will be highlighting what Lin-Manuel Miranda says in Bold, to make it easier to differentiate. And what I say will be in regular font).
"Good Evening, Ms. Gilbert. You already know me, but my name is Lin-Manuel Miranda. It's nice to meet you finally."
"Good Evening Mr. Miranda, it is truly an honor to get to meet you tonight. I'm Jennifer Gilbert."
"So, let me just start off by saying, I've read over your work a ton of times, and I am truly beyond fascinated by every single piece of it."
"Well, it is truly an honor to hear that come from you, Mr. Miranda. That means a lot to me, thank you very much."
"So, let me get straight to the point. You've read it in the email already, but, I want to ask you here, too. Ever since reading your truly great work, I've been so inspired, that I want YOU to be the Director of Hamilton: The Musical."
"Mr. Miranda, it is truly an honor for you to ask me to be the Director for Hamilton. And all I can say is, I will gladly take the offer to be Director for Hamilton: The Musical."
"This is truly amazing. Thank you Ms. Gilbert, so much. Therefore, I am aware that you live & also work in Washington, D.C., but there is something we'll be able to work out when it comes to your schedule."
"Awesome, thank you very much! I am willing to travel there to New York City about two times a week, and then the rest I can be on Zoom or something if needed."
"Ohh, that's actually perfect! That's exactly what I was going to offer! It works out perfectly! Awesome, thank you very much! When are you willing to start?"
"I am more than willing to start whenever you'd need me to start, Mr. Miranda!"
"That's perfect! I would hate for you to feel pressured, so I'll give you some time. It's only March still, and we don't start production until mid June, so there's a ton of time. Whenever you're ready, just message my assistant & she'll connect you with me."
"I truly appreciate it, Mr. Miranda. I'll talk with you soon!"
"It is my ultimate pleasure, Ms. Gilbert. Have a great evening."
*Zoom meeting ends*
Holy cow, I can't believe that just happened. I had a meeting with LIN-MANUEL MIRANDA! It's interesting though, because no one else in my family (besides my parents) knows about me becoming Director for Hamilton. I decided not to tell anyone else besides my parents, because I wanted it to be a true surprise to everyone. Before I ended the meeting with Lin-Manuel, I politely asked if I could take a picture or screenshot so I could make an announcement post for my family members & friends. He very politely agreed & I took a quick picture. I had explained to him that I haven't told anyone else in my family (besides my parents), or my friends, about this amazing opportunity, so I wanted to take a quick picture to make it as my announcement.
This is it, I am finally living my ultimate dream.
