Chapter 19- Hayden

"Sapphire wait," I desperately called after her but it was too late. She was already out the door and I didn't see what way she went.

" You know what fine," I shouted in the general direction of the door, " If you want to be like go ahead! Fuck you Sapphire Holloway!"

" Excuse me Mr. Rodgers what did you just say??"

Oh shit. Be careful of your words. You never know when you'll pass by a teacher. The strictest at boulder and has a zero tolerance for anything that was considered " inappropriate."

" Umm..."

" Go to the office now Mr Rodgers!"

When I got to the office the principle went outside for some unknown reason so I was ordered to sit in the corner and wait for him to return. I let out out a very tiring yawn. Man this is boring, I have nothing to do. I can't text anyone because they are in class and I don't have any devices on me to pass the time. My thoughts kept going back to Sapphire and our kiss. It was the best (and only) kiss of my life so far. I'm not sure exactly why I did it. It just felt... Natural. Right.

A few minutes later which felt like fucking forever the principle came back with Sapphire? What the hell?

What happened I mouthed to her when she was looking at me?

Stay out of my damn business she mouthed back

That's so what she would say to me.

"Miss Appleton why is Mr. Rodgers here?"

" He used profanity and was sent here to talk to you sir," she explained.

Sapphire softly cackled behind the principle and mouthed what did you say?

The f bomb was my response.

She stared at me for a while before her smile broke out into a full on grin.

I taught you well

What does she mean by that? She does know I swear right? Just not as often as she and her friends do is all.

" I don't have time for that Miss Appleton," the principle complained, " I have to clear Miss Holloway's transcripts so if you will excuse me."

He walked away with Sapphire just standing there like a dumbie.

I waved her over wanting to know what happened.

She came over to me and when I asked her what happened there was no trace of emotion in her voice when she explained that she got busted for smoking a joint.

A fucking joint! Seriously! Why the hell would she have a joint at a tobacco free zone!

" You're mad Sapphire! Are you that stupid? You bought this onto yourself! I don't feel sorry for you at all! In fact you deserve what ever punishment you get!"

Her eyes started to water over, but she blinked the tears back not daring to show her emotions to me.

"I fucking hate you for that," she snipped with guilt in her tone, "A habit is hard to break. I've been using that as a safety net for as long as I can remember."

As her words started to ring in my head I began to wonder if her life is really as bad as she claims it is. Or is she using it as a pity excuse to get attention when her family didn't give two shits about her.
