Chapter 24 - Sapphire

Things with Hayden have been good, great actually. That was until we got into a huge argument about colleges last week. You see, I personally never wanted to go to college in the first place and I wasn't about to get forced to go by my boyfriend. Hayden already got accepted to all the colleges he applied to and I haven't sent in one application.

Hayden was brilliant and could get into any college he wanted but I on the other hand had crappy grades and a bad police record to go with it. Hayden's mom tried to get me help but there was no point, I was barely going to graduate high school.

Hayden got mad at my "attitude" and would constantly leave the house to go hangout with the boxers. I knew he was just upset that I wouldn't be going to the same college as him and my insecurities got the best of me. I pushed him away, feeling like I was holding him back in life, and that frustrated him.

I wasn't the same person I was when the school year started and that made me both glad and upset.

"Hey Saph, you ok?" Irene looked at me with concern as she laid down on the other bed in our room.

"Uh yeah, I'm just feeling a little down that Hayden and I are fighting that's all." I shrugged my shoulders.

"Tell me about it, I've been feeling like ripping off Gideon's head lately." Irene flipped the page of her magazine.

I rolled my eyes, Irene and Gideon were clearly made for each other. They had their future set with each other. They were going to the same college together, going to live together, and the biggest problem they had was what kind of dog they were going to buy.

"Hey Irene, you mind looking at some apartments with me? It's been a month since I turned 18 and I think I've overstayed my welcome." I gave Irene a small smile.

"You know you could just stay here until graduation, it is only a month away and you are always welcome here! You're the best roommate ever." Irene winked at me.

I chuckled, "Although that sounds fun, I think it's time for me to find my own place. Maybe it would be good for Hayden and I to get some space."

"So what places did you have in mind?" Irene asked excitingly.

"Not sure, Cato's dad is a house realtor and is showing me some options." I got up and put my long hair into a pony tail. I put on some skinny jeans and a tank top with my matching converse. I couldn't be moping about Hayden all day, I needed to spring into action.

I let Irene get dressed while I walked into Hayden's room to get my money that he has been hiding for a while. I had even more for a nice place now that I've been saving up from my job.

I went into his closet and removed the board that was standing in between. Behind the board was my money sitting where I put it, but then there was an odd small box wrapped in black velvet fabric.

I debated whether to open the box or not, whether to invade Hayden's privacy or give in to my curiosity. But that choice was never made when someone opened the door.

I turned around and saw Hayden staring at me with wide eyes, "Please tell me you didn't open the box."

"I didn't, I was getting my money out," I lifted my eyebrow, he was definitely hiding something, "What's in it Hayden?"

"Nothing." He quickly responded.

I picked up the box, "What are you hiding Hayden?"

He came close, taking the box out of my hands and placed it into his pocket.

"Why are you taking your money out?" He asked.

"Stop trying to change the subject Hayden."

"It's nothing Sapphire, leave it alone." He groaned and threw himself on to the bed.
