"....if anyone can show just cause why this couple cannot lawfully be joined in matrimony. Let them speak now or forever hold their peace."
This it it. Chaeyoung's fate lies in here hands now. With a last intake of breath as she shuts her eyes tightly and stands abruptly, raising her hand she yells out. "I object!"
Okay there are probably atleast ten other ways she could have gone for stopping this wedding and yelling I object feels like top embarrassing ways to stop a wedding but that's where she's gotten herself into now. The yelling was definitely not necessary considering the officiate's words were followed by a combined silence seeing people generally attending weddings don't come to ruin in.
The silence however was broke by collective gasp from the crowd after lisa's outbrust followed by the something likely to be calm before the storm as lisa stood frigid as a statue as everyone seems to be holding their breath and she can hear her own heartbeat in her ears.
When she peels her eyes open, everyone's eyes are on her and she grimaces when her gaze catches on catches on the widened eyes on the altar and the beautiful brunette she saw earlier sending her a fiery glare, a sight that she would have found sexy if not for the current situation.
The officiate clears his throat and looks around with nervous chuckle while he tries to figure out a way to desperately salvage this event. "Um, excuse me young lady, Why don't you take a seat back down?"
Lisa can hear the crowd let out a breath, but this will not do, she thinks. She didn't get herself into such mess just to go without a fight.
Lisa shakes her head and tries to gather her though and formulate sensible words. She runs her hands over her hair. "No sir, I cannot hold my peace." Okay. Seriously she needs to stop with over dramatic declarations.
"I mean." She clears her throat, trying to get her words. "Chaeyoung" and the bride looks at her surprised that this girl who she never saw knew her name. And briefly wonders if this girl is invited or if she sneaked in. She really should have gone over the entire guests list instead of being distracted when her ex messaged that she would attend the wedding, throwing her completely off guard. She had invited jisoo completely out of common courtesy. And maybe she missed her a bit and wanted to prove herself that she truly had moved on.
"Look, all I wanna ask is, are you completely, absolutely, with out a doubt, unequivocally," lisa pauses she's running out of synonyms. "..Positively sure that this what you want? You don't have any lingering feelings for anyone else?" And there she sees a flicker of doubt come across the brides features.
"Of course, she's sure." An older women near the front shouts as she stands angrily and swivels her head to turn towards the back to lisa who is still the only person standing. Lisa can only assume this person was chaeyoung's adoptive mother based on jisoo's description.
"She's at the altar after months of wedding preparations after all. Security!" Lisa's eyes widen at her words and she sees two buff looking men with ear pieces takes couple of steps towards her.
"Hey, I am not here to cause any real problem." She says with her hands up and even she knows it sounds really bullshit as she's already causing the problem. "Just do be one quick favour." She pleads as she returns her gaze to chaeyoung. "Look me in the eyes and tell me you are completely over jisoo Kim. Do that and I'll go away and you can resume the ceremony."
At the mention of her ex, chaeyoung's facade crumbles. Years of mastering to control her emotions seems to fail her at this instance and her face softens and tears forms without her consent. She clenches her jaws as an attempt to stop herself from talking. She had spent four years trying to get over jisoo and when finally at a place where she thinks she's moved on, the mention of her name sends her spiraling back at the dizzying speed.
"Okay that's enough!" Lisa a turns to the angry cat-eyed brunette, who moved to chaeyoung's side, her expression switching from worried to pissed off as she tries to comfort her friend while scowling at lisa.
"Security!" It's the groom this time and before the two guards can come any closer, a women near the back row stands up and adds some fuel to the situation. Because the whole thing isn't dramatic enough apparently.
"Wait!" The girl wearing knee-length black dress shouts with determined look on her face. "Jonathan, I think it's time we tell them the truth." She address to a wide eyed, panic-stricken groom.
"What's going on?" Chaeyoung finally speaks up, tears threatening to fall as the crack in her voice confirms. She takes a small step from Jonathan who reaches out a hand only for the girl to jerk her arm away.
"Baby, listen to me okay? I love you. That's all you need to know." He says pleadingly. "Nancy not now please." He turns his head to the girl in the back row with an angry look.
"Security! Take there harlots out of this place." Chaeyoung's mother cries again.
"I am three months pregnant with his baby!" The Nancy girls shouts.
Oh my God, I am in the middle of real life telenovela. Lisa's eyebrows shoots up in surprise.
There's a collective gasp around the room again and lisa steers her gaze to the front once more. Chaeyoung looks more devastated if possible while the brunette looks mortified.
"What?" Chaeyoung gasps.
"I can explain." Jonathan says. "It was when we had that fight a few months ago, remember? We were on a break and I messed up. It was one time thing I promise."
"Wasn't a one time thing." Nancy responds fearlessly.
"Oh God Nancy! Shut the fuck up!" Jonathan angrily responds.
Chaeyoung shakes her head and starts to gather her dress together and it looks lot like runaway-bride thing in televisions. When she's gathered enough of it to allow herself to walk, she all but runs back down the asile, the terse in her eyes finally galling down her cheeks.
"Don't. Follow. Her." The unnamed brunette says with a stern tone and piercing gaze when Jonathan makes a move to run after chaeyoung and she herself goes after her friend.
Lisa looks around at all the stunned faces and can't help but gulp in her place, the guests near her exchange disbelieving looks and glare at her every few seconds making sure to let her know that they blame her for this whole ordeal. Before mama chaeyoung can send her dogs to chase her, she turns and runs, thinking about all the places where chaeyoung could run to.
If I were a runaway bride, where would I go?
Far from here..? Her brain responds
She rolls her eyes at herself. Very informative. And she runs.
