Katherine met you after she managed to escape from Klaus. At first she believed you were a witch of some sort, living in a cabin away from the villages, having a cat following you around. So she did the smart thing and stalked you, to make sure you weren't a threat.
You first met Katherine during winter, she was walking around too close to your house so went to greet her. The woman didn't acknowledge your presence, choosing to walk away. You found the encounter strange but didn't put too much thought into it.
Katherine was distracted that day, she didn't notice your approach until it was too late. The fact she ran was embarrassing enough for her to not go back for one week.
You both met each other when the vampire knocked on your door to apologize. It happened so surprisingly that it started raining. That was the first time she stayed over at your place.
After this date you started talking more, Katherine with her snarky comments and you with sarcasm, it was almost as if you were made for each other.
The first kiss happened with the first fall of snow. The vampire was worried about you leaving in such weather so an argument started, only ending with the acceptance of care from both sides and a kiss.
For the first time in years Katherine was at peace, your cabin was perfectly quiet. The chores were always tending to the garden and cleaning the cabin, leaving plenty of free time to simply be. She loved this life, she loved waking up by your side, hearing you laugh, holding your hand, she just loved you.
You weren't a witch, much less a supernatural being, you just enjoyed biology and were fascinated by cats.
She told you she was a vampire after two months together, you naturally had many questions but stood by her side, helping her with what you could, loving her.
No one ever expects something like this to go wrong, Katherine has survived many things but she never imagined needing to survive this. You were both young in it's way, none could see it coming.
If anyone had heard of this story, they would be sure that this was when Katherine became a villain of sorts. This was why she never stayed with someone, why she played with the Salvatore's, why she hated Elena so much.
You were together for two winters, on the third you got sick. You were always as healthy as a human can be at the time, but sometimes winter was too cruel.
Katherine wouldn't leave your side, she wanted to turn you but needed your permission even though she knew you would only say yes for her. However, you kept going in and out of consciousness, never awake enough to give a proper answer. So, she waited, waited for you to get better.
Your cat would lay with you every hour, as if it knew there wouldn't be too much time.
You loved Katherine, you truly did, but immortality was never something you desired, the vampire knew that, you had talked about it.
It was the last day of snow, you asked her to pick up some flowers if they were still up, just to see a bit of the outside. Of course Katherine ran to get your flower, she would do anything for you. Your cat stayed with you, touching your head as support.
Katherine heard when your heart stopped, she's never heard a silence quite so loud. In situations like these some would think they'd rush to action. But she froze.
She walked through the door, cursing every step, hoping she was wrong, and she cried, like never before.
Katherine tried to bring you back, but you were so stubborn. The vampire tried to blame you, but that didn't last a minute.
Your cat died a year later, almost staying alive just to keep an eye on your girl.
She burned the cabin right after, murdered the entire villages nearby, and never went back.
Katherine never had a relationship again, not like yours, for her it was impossible to have someone like you.
Stefan Salvatore wasn't like you, not even a little bit, but during their time together she tried to make him like you. It never worked, but after believing a lie for so long, it gets harder to see the truth.
Elena Gilbert had what she didn't, happiness, a family. You were supposed to be her family, but you were gone, and Elena had everything.
During her time alive, Katherine talked to Klaus once, she expected to die but instead had the worst emotional talk of her life. At least he said the truth, your relationship was doomed from the start, you were just born to die and she was born to lose you, nothing could've stopped it.
He did also tell her to not look for death but bring it to others, which the vampire happily obliged.
