Mabel's POV

Moving to a new town was hard enough already but moving to a new town on your own? That was painful.

I huffed lowly to myself as i slowly began to drag my green roller suitcase up the set of stairs that now led to the small flat i had all but recently rented, it was a spur of the moment decision and hadn't seemed to notice that the flat sat above a small pub. The pub, luckily, sat nestled on the outskirts of the small town which lay in the Highlands of Scotland.

I had thought myself somewhat of a genius after making the quick decision of packing up my whole life and booking a one-way ticket to Scotland.

It felt impulsive and freeing, exactly what I needed.

As soon as i had arrived i had felt a sense of home, the flat and pub owner was an older gent who looked to be in his mid-60's though he had aged like fine wine.

The kind man had introduced himself as Billy, handed over the keys to my new home with a warm smile, then disappeared, leaving me to settle in on my own.

Once alone i had the chance to inspect the small town from my front door. From what i could see, the town seemed almost perfectly preserved, untouched by modern society. Small cottages and shops lined the narrow cobbled streets, each house was marked by a quaint brown fence. Almost everyone seemed to take pride in the gardens, which made me smile.

The backdrop of the village was a forest so vibrantly green that it took my breath away. I could hardly believe how picturesque it was-and now I got to live here.

The place seemed so historic that i couldn't even remember passing a car while hiking up the streets after exiting my train. Maybe they still used horse and carriage around here?

The thought made me giggle as i turned to unlock my front door.

My hands shook slightly as i pushed my way into my new life. The bold idea to move halfway across the country was spurred on after the sudden death of my father, though we hadn't been close and not from the lack of trying, he was the last family i had and it had hurt to know i was now completely alone in the world.

So with the small amount of money that was left to me and the savings i had been adding to for the last five years i had decided that what i desperately needed was a fresh start and where fresher than the Highlands?

Now stood with the door open i slipped the key in the pocket of my blue jeans and bumped my hip gently against the door to widen the gap while dragging my suitcase in behind me.

Even though i had seen the flat advertised online i still took the time to scope out the place i could now call home.

As soon as you stepped into the place you were imminently in the living room, which was open planned but was sectioned off by the kitchen counters, the floors that ran though the entire room were a light wood and the walls were a plain white. The kitchen was a small L shape with cream counters and natural wooden cabinets, it was extremely cosy, the fridge and oven were placed side by side, both white and new looking.

I wiggled my shoulders excitedly, such a blank canvas.

Though excited i couldn't help but slump my shoulders slightly at the thought that my small amount of furniture would be delivered in a few days from now.

I seemed to be lucky enough to have a double bed waiting for me in my bedroom which i discovered was to the left of my living room, the bedroom had a joining bathroom which was cramped but had all the necessities.

I re-entered the living room area and plopped myself on the floor all while grinning to myself, i was still happy in the decision to move, the town already felt more like home that the place i had grown up in.
