The kiss lasted for who knows how long and they only parted when Lan Wangji accidentally touched one of Wei Wuxian's wounds and when his husband hissed in pain.

"I am sorry." Lan Wangji breathed.

"I did not know that Second Master Lan was so fierce."

"Wei Ying!" Lan Wangji's ears were crimson red.

"Hahaha.... Lan Zhan! Are you not able to control yourself?"

"Shut. Up." Lan Wangji emphasized.

"Why don't you shut me up?"

Lan Wangji glared at his teasing husband but all that he got in return was a teasing laugh.

"Alright, alright. I won't kid anymore. Come on, let me look at your leg now."

"There are still some fresh wounds on Wei Ying. Let me clean it up first."

"It can wait."

"It cannot wait." And then Lan Wangji pulled himself away from Wei Wuxian a little so that he could observe the wounds more clearly.

"What did Wen Chao do?" he questioned.

Wei Wuxian offered a small, assuring smile, and then took a deep breath. "It was a dire wolf. They shackled me to the wall and then stuck me in the dungeon with it."

He did not want to tell it to Lan Wangji but he knew how stubborn his husband was. He would not get to examine Lan Wangji's leg until he is done with Wei Wuxian wounds and had got to know all the information.

Lan Wangji's lip twitched into a scowl for a brief, yet unforgettable, moment. Then, he procured a jar of water and a few cloth strips from inside the sleeve of his robes. "Stay still," he demanded.

"Do you just walk around with healing supplies in your robes, Lan Zhan?"

"I do not." He wetted one of the cloths and then gently pressed it against the wound. "It seemed likely that you would not care for your wounds. If a fight were to break out, you need to be able to defend yourself. In your current state, I fear you could not."

"And what about you, Lan Zhan?"

He didn't look up. Lan Wangji focused intently on the puncture wounds on Wei Ying's shoulder, carefully washing the sweat and blood away. His fingertips suddenly brushed against skin. Lan Wangji froze and inhaled sharply.

Wei Wuxian didn't move. He just stared down with wide eyes. They were husbands and why was Lan Wangji blushing when he touched him!

Lan Wangji didn't look up. After a few blinks, he slowly began moving the cloth again. Then, as carefully as he cleaned the wound, he wrapped it in cloth strips. "You should take care not to move your shoulder unless absolutely necessary."

Wei Wuxian smiled down at him. "Alright, Lan Zhan." He pulled up the sleeves of his robes again and nodded. "It does feel better. Thank you."

"Wei Ying. You do not need to thank me."

"Sure, I do." He shifted closer to Lan Wangji. "Now lift your robes so I can see your leg."

Lan Wangji's ears turned even more red. He looked away quickly, settling back against the roof as he rolled up the bottom of his robes, and then pulled up the thin, cotton pants beneath.

Wei Wuxian froze. "I—Lan Zhan. This is..."

Everything below Lan Wangji's knee was a mess of black, green, purple, and blue. It looked like the swelling had yet to go down, as well. It looked...grotesque.

"How long has it been like this?" he managed.

Lan Wangji's gaze darkened and he hesitated. He turned away.

"Lan Zhan. I need to know how long."

"A week," he said quietly.

"Will you tell me what happened? Does it have anything to do with Wen Chao saying that the Wens control Cloud Recesses now?"

"Mm." Fury, as clear as day, clouded Lan Wangji's expression. "They killed many. The only way to stop the slaughter was to surrender myself and the piece of the Yin Iron. Wen Xu feared I may retaliate, so he had his men..." He glanced down at his leg.

Sitting like this, below Lan Wangji as the moonlight poured onto them, suddenly brought to the light the collection of bruises on his throat. Wei Ying reached up and tenderly pulled the collar of Lan Wangji's robes away. The bruises led down and disappeared into Lan Wangji's robes.

"What else did they do?" Wei Wuxian asked.

Lan Wangji still refused to look at him.

"Lan Zhan," he snapped. "Am I not allowed to care for you too?"

"I—"

This had to be the first time Lan Wangji looked at a loss for words. Usually, he just looked like he wanted to be silent, but now...now he looked afraid to speak. Like he had words to say, but had no idea how to say them. Wei Wuxian balled his fists up to stop himself from grabbing Suibian and killing everyone on the way to Wen Chao's chambers.

"When I arrived in Qishan with Wen Xu, there was...a punishment. For being of the Lan Clan. And for not telling him the location of the other piece of the Yin Iron."

"Why did they expect you to know that?"

"It does not matter. But I did not know. And Wen Xu and Wen Chao found this...unacceptable."

Wei Wuxian jolted onto his feet, snapping Suibian off the ground and—

A hand grabbed his wrist. Lan Wangji's hand. "Wei Ying." He shook his head. "Not now. We cannot do anything now."

"I'm going to kill him for this," Wei Wuxian whispered. "I will. I will kill anybody who hurt you!"

"We will do it together. When the time is right."

"Promise, Lan Zhan?"

"Yes, Wei Ying. I promise."

They did not speak while Wei Wuxian set Lan Wangji's leg. When Lan Wangji's leg had been bandaged and seemed alright, they leaned back on the roof, feeling home in each others' warmth.

Although Wei Wuxian seemed calm on the exterior, he had a raging fire in him. He just could not imagine that Wen bastard hurt Lan Wangji with or without reason. His Lan Wangji was precious and no one could lay their hands on him.

No one!

And he would seek revenge for whoever did it!
