Jake was already sitting in the dining hall, his eyes switching between watching the door and glaring at Miles from across the room. Every time the doors would squeak his eyes shot in that direction hoping it was Y/n, until finally she stood there. Her eyes were focused on something else though, something across the room. It was Miles and he was staring right back at her, a smirk spread across his face as his eyes scanned over the top she decided to wear. It hung low on her shoulders and exposed every mark, every bite that he had given her. She then turned her attention to the rest of the hall before her gaze fell on Jake.

His face was red, whether it was from rage, embarrassment or jealousy she didn't know, but oh boy did she want to find out. Slowly she made her way through the line to get her food before sliding past Miles, who was standing against the wall, her ass gliding against his crotch sending a chill throughout his body, her eyes never leaving Jake's. Finally Jake looked down at his own food and began to eat it ever so slowly, he continued glancing to make sure Y/n was still coming to eat with him. In the last glance he took Y/n had placed her tray on the table next to him, throwing her legs over the seat.

Jake was the first to talk. "I see it didn't take you long to move on" his words were laced with irritation as he continued to force the food into his mouth. He wasn't even hungry, mostly nauseous at this point. "For what its worth, I am sorry." He glanced over to Y/n but her eyes never left her tray, "Angel, please. Can you at least look at me for one second?"

She snapped her head to the side, her y/e/c eyes glaring down at him before whisper yelling" Don't ever call me that again. You don't deserve to call me that." Her eyes went back to her tray, her fork pushing the mystery meat around before she took another small bite.

Jake nodded his head, mumbling out a half hearted 'sorry' before taking another bite and looking at her again. He sighed, lips turning into a sad smile as he spoke "I always thought that shirt looks nice on you, I'm glad you're wearing it again" Even if its not for me he thought. Jake looked towards Miles, who was watching them, refusing to move from his spot at the wall as others tried to pass. He looked back to Y/n noticing a tear fall from her cheek and onto the table in front of her. His hand twitched, ready to wipe her face clean of the tears, clean of the sorrow. The sorrow that he caused.

Y/n sniffled, clearing her throat as she spoke, questioning him, "Why didn't you tell me? I would’ve understood. I mean, yeah it would have hurt me but not as much as it does now. Does she even know about me?" Y/ns voice was low, he almost didn't hear her over the commotion of the dining hall. Another tear fell down to her chin as she looked over to him, her eyes begging for an answer.

Jake was quiet for a moment, gathering his thoughts, "Yes, she knows. I would talk about you constantly, but not as my wife, as a friend." he sighed, pausing for a moment. "I'm a jackass I know, and I wish I told you sooner. I dont know why I didn't." Again he stopped, looking at her to see if he should go on or if he should shut up. But her face revealed nothing, her expression turned to stone anytime she was around him recently. "You've been ignoring me for a while now so I knew you knew something but I-" she cut him off.

"Jake you're not a jackass" she paused, glancing to watch a smile of hope crawl onto his face "you're a coward" and instantly the smile was gone leaving him speechless as he looked down again nodding. "I hope you know I want a divorce. Im not going to stay here and pretend to love you when you love someone else. My heart is broken Jake and I know you don't understand how that feels. How I feel-" Y/n stopped talking as her words began to get caught in her throat, choking out a small sob at the end. She ran a hand over her neck, holding it to her shoulder as the other one wiped the tears from her face. "I've noticed a lot more than you think, and I know how in love you are with her." She paused, snuffing her nose "I just want you to be happy. We can find a way to file while were here, Im sure Mr. Selfridge could help us out-"

Jake was the one to cut her off this time, scoffing "Yeah for a price. To him everything has a price." Jake looked at her with a weak smile, this time talking more calmly "We'll figure it out," he placed his hand on hers, squeezing gently before he let go "I mean how hard can it be to get a divorce on this planet." Jake paused again and looked over to the colonel and laughed, "He has no idea how amazing you are. Give him hell, yeah?"

Y/n then looked over to Miles and smiled "Hell is all he knows. I think I'd rather give him a taste of heaven!" not once did she blink while she was talking, and not once did she look away. When she looked back to Jake, his eyes had widened and his mouth was slightly agape.

Y/n smiles as she stood up from the table, reaching to take her tray when Jake slapped her hand away, trying not to let her see he was holding back a laugh. "I'll take your tray, you go." He said waving his hand at her. Y/n smiled at him one last time before walking back over to Miles.

Jake watched as Miles wrapped an arm around her waist and whispered in her ear. He looked away when Y/n laughed and leaned further into Miles's side. Jake knew they made the right decision. It hurt to see her love someone else, but now he truly did know how she felt. How broken she was, and that Miles was the only one who could fix it.
