CHAPTER FOURTEEN

I pull up outside Jamie's, my music turning off as I pull out my car keys.

Sunlight is just beginning to break, but I had to get here early today.

Jamie's appointment to have her cast removed is at nine o'clock, and since she can't drive with it on, I'm taking her. Although, I wouldn't have let her go alone anyway.

I bound up to the front door, knocking on it twice.

She answers almost immediately. She looks stunning.

Her long hair cascades around her shoulders in tight curls, her eyes twinkling, and she is wearing a floral print dress. I smile at her and lean in for a kiss.

" How you feeling?" I ask, walking towards the car.

She follows me. " Excited to get this thing off!" She pauses. " Though, I do have an attachment to it."

Confused, I ask, " Why?"

" Because it's the reason you and I met."

I laugh. " I guess it is."

She smiles up at me as we reach the car. I open the door for her. " Oh, very gentlemanly of you," she says sarcastically.

" Get in the fucking car," I chuckle.

Jamie laughs, shaking her head at me, and climbs in.

Once in the car, I switch on the radio and begin to drive. Radio1 blasts through the speakers and I hear Jamie sigh, sinking back into the chair. After a moment, I can feel her gaze on me.

" What?" I chuckle.

I watch out of the corner of my eye as her face reddens. " Nothing."

" No, seriously: what?"

" Well, I. . . was just thinking how hot you are, to be honest."

I laugh. " You know, I think that a lot, too."

Her eyes widen. " About yourself."

I chuckle. " No, I meant you." I pause. " But I'm pretty hot, too."

Jamie laughs and gently slaps my arm. " God, I can't wait to get this cast off."

I laugh. " I can tell. . . want to go out for dinner after?"

She nods slightly. " Yeah, I guess - no where too fancy, though."

" Gotcha."

It takes fifteen minutes to get to the hospital, and once there I quickly park up. I climb out of the car and walk round to Jamie's side, helping her out the car.

She links her left hand with mine. I swing our hands back and forth as we walk towards the door.

Jamie walks up to the desk when we get inside, dragging me along. " Hello," she addresses a tall man with blond hair and sparkly blue eyes.

He glances up at her and smiles. " Good morning. What can I do for you?"

" I have an appointment at nine o'clock."

" Okay," he says. " What's your name?"

I kind of zone out as Jamie tells the man her name and he types it into the computer. Something about the way he keeps smirking at my girlfriend is really bothering me. And I think I catch her giggling a couple times.

Jamie thanks the man and drags me over to the far corner of the waiting room. We sit down.

" What's with you?" she asks, furrowing her thick brows.

I shrug. " Nothing."

Jamie places two fingers under my chin and tilts my head up. " Come on, Sam; what's wrong?"

I sigh and try to cast my gaze away. " Nah - it's just the way that guy was looking at you. . . and the way you were looking back."

She laughs loudly and leans in to smash her lips against mine. " Sam, I love you."

I grin as a foreign feeling floods through me. " I love you, too."

And, although it mightn't be the most romantic of places, I am content with us saying those three words for the first time in a hospital waiting room.
