chapter twenty

" Do I look okay?"

I turn around to see her standing there, brunette hair flowing down her shoulders in tranquil waves, lilac dress meeting he ankles and squeezing her body tightly together. I smile.

" You look perfect." I say, straightening my suit.

She blushes, her cheeks turning crimson. " Thank you, you look good, too."

I smile wider. " What time do we have to be there by?"

" Well, the actual ceremony is at one, but we have to be there for twelve because it's important for the best man and the bridesmaid to help out."

I straighten my tie in the mirror and smiled. There will be three best men, and three bridesmaids. . . has that ever even been done before? I check the clock and see that it's twenty to twelve.

" Okay, well we better get going then."

I spin round and Jamie smiles at me, tucking a long strand of hair behind her ear and plucking her bag from the table.

We make our way to the car, climbing in carefully so as not to crease our clothing. I start up the car and back out of the driveway.

" Have you spoken to Craig lately?" Jamie asks as we speed along the road at a nice pace.

I nod. " Last night."

" Was he nervous?"

" A bit, but I think he was more excited than anything else." I reply, changing the gear.

" Yeah, same with Kirsten. Although she was in a tizzy about her aunt and uncle, worried in case they wouldn't make it up from England in time," she answered, gazing out the window.

" Are you excited?" I ask.

She shrugs. " I don't know; I mean, I guess, a little. I've never actually been to a wedding before."

" Never?"

" Never," she says, her face reddening. " I kind of had this weird thing that I wouldn't go to a wedding until it was my own."

I find myself smiling. That's . . . really cute. " Why are you coming today then?"

She shrugs. " I like Craig. And I like Kirsten. They're my friends."

I'm glad she took to them as well as they took to her. My friends are easy to get along with, so I suppose it was no surprise, but I was still nervous when I first introduced them.

We eventually pull up outside the huge church. Kirsten is quite religious, so they decided to have the wedding at a church.

It's been months since the proposal, but it didn't take them long to plan things. They wanted to tie the knot as soon as possible.

Before we leave the car, Jamie and I share a quick kiss. " I love you," she smiles.

" I love you, too."

There are only seven cars in the car park, including mine, so it looks vastly empty.

We make our way towards the entrance and walk inside, trying to find our way to the rooms of our friends.
