"So, so, so," Sonakshi asked Maitree, who had just come out of the shower and was still wiping her hair.
"What!" Maitree gave an annoyed look.
"The date? Obviously!" Sonakshi said, emphasizing the word "obviously" in a teasing tone.
"Nothing happened. I said I am not ready to date and left," Maitree said, hanging the wet towel to dry and slumping down onto the living room couch.
"What? You didn't even give him a chance?" Sonakshi asked, sitting next to Maitree and grabbing a blanket for both of them.
"Sona, the only reason I went is to make you happy," said Maitree, placing her feet on Sona's lap. "Now, could you please massage my feet? They hurt because of your heels. I have a CABG and an aneurysm repair tomorrow, and I can't go into surgery with already sore feet."
Massaging her feet, Sona said, "Mai, if you keep holding onto this pain, you might never find someone new. I understand that you're still hurting from your ex-boyfriend's betrayal, but-"
"Ex-fiancé," Maitree interjected, her voice trembling, "you're forgetting we were engaged for 24 hours. That counts for something, right?" Tears welled up in her eyes, threatening to spill over.
"Right, I forgot," Sona replied in a subdued tone. "But remember, he didn't even get you a ring. So, technically, it doesn't count."
Maitree paused for a moment, taking a deep breath. "But it meant something to me," she whispered softly, her voice filled with emotion. She paused for a moment and continued "I invested two years of my life in him, and he didn't even take two days to shatter my heart, move on, and get married," Maitree expressed with a mix of pain and frustration.
"Oh, Mai," Sona said sympathetically, wrapping her arms around Maitree in a comforting embrace.
"Why was it so easy for him to move on, while I struggle to even get through a single date?" Maitree questioned, her voice tinged with a sense of bewilderment and frustration.
"Cause he's a jerk, and you deserve someone far better than him," Sona replied with a hint of venom in her voice. "Mai, I understand if you're not ready, but you can't keep rejecting every person you meet without even giving them a chance." Sona gently broke the hug, looking earnestly at Maitree.
"I know and I am doing better. At least I went to meet the guy and dressed up for the occasion even if it was to reject him, that's progress" Maitree said with a half-smile, acknowledging her efforts.
"Yes, it definitely is progress, and you deserve a well-earned foot massage for that," Sona declared, playfully pulling up Maitree's feet.
"Is Dr. Adhikari at least good-looking?" Sona inquired as she continued massaging Maitree's feet.
That question brought a smile to Maitree's face. "Good-looking? Nah! He's more than that. He's hot," she thought, her eyes lighting up. "He has nice black hair that perfectly complements his features, and his t-shirt shows off his well-defined biceps. Those piercing black eyes of his... They seem to look right through my soul, and that scares me a little. And that mischievous, confident smile... It's irresistible. Plus, his observation skills are off the charts. No wonder he's a surgeon. And he knows how to dress impeccably."
"Where are you lost, and what's with the smile?" Sona asked, snapping her fingers. "He noticed I don't like eggs." Lost in thought, Maitree slowly respond. Hiding her other thoughts about his biceps and eyes, something Sona never has to know.
"What? Your ex didn't know that after you guys dated for two years, and you mostly ate from outside! Didn't he see that you never ordered egg-based dishes?" Sona exclaimed, surprised by Maitree's reminiscing.
