"I can't believe I'm sitting here with you," murmured Rudraksh as he occupied the aisle seat, his gaze fixed on Khushi and Maitree who were engrossed in conversation a few rows ahead.
Shourya chuckled while looking at him. "It could be worse, you know. You could be stuck next to a sweaty, overweight guy who can't stop sneezing." Rudra shot him a quizzical look and then resumed his contemplation of Maitree and Khushi.
"Now you know how I've been feeling," Shourya said in a casual tone, scrolling through his phone.
"What?" Rudra asked, his expression puzzled as he turned to Shourya.
"I'm glad that you and Khushi get along so well, but sometimes I feel left out when you two start talking," Shourya said, locking his gaze onto Rudra.
"Why didn't you bring this up before?" Rudra asked, processing this newfound information.
"Because I see how well you connect with Khushi, and I feel fortunate for that. Rudra, you and Khushi hit it off. Just imagine if you didn't. Our lives would be so different," Shourya said, putting away his phone.
Meeting Rudra's eyes, Shourya continued, "You might not have even met Maitree if it weren't for Khushi."
Looking at Rudra, a tense Shourya with a warm smile said "Don't worry, I'm not asking you to stop being friends with her. Just include me in the conversations too."
Rudra chuckled. "Seems like they're hitting it off," he remarked, gesturing toward the two girls engrossed in conversation. Shourya nodded, a pleased smile on his face. "True, and you never know, when Khushi and I team up against you, you and Maitree can team up against us."
"That would be interesting" Shourya shook his head chuckling
'Ladies and gentlemen, we kindly ask that you please set your electronic devices, including mobile phones, to flight mode or airplane mode at this time, as we are preparing for takeoff. Thank you for your cooperation.'
As the flight attendants' announcement filled the cabin, Rudra dutifully switched his phone to airplane mode. He looked up and found Maitree's gaze directed at him, a warm smile on her lips. Caught off guard by her attention, he blinked in surprise, and she turned to share something with Khushi.
Beside him, Shourya's expression turned serious, his gaze focused on the back of Maitree's head. Rudra sensed something was amiss. "What's wrong?" he inquired.
Shourya turned his gaze back to Rudra. "You were right about her eyes," he said, his tone carrying a mixture of surprise and realization.
"What" Rudra said with puzzled eyes then he remembered the conversation Rudra had with Shourya the night he met Maitree 'Her eyes, I've seen them somewhere before, but I can't pinpoint where'
"We have definitely seen them before," Shourya mused, his gaze fixed on Maitree.
Rudra furrowed his brow, deep in thought. "Do you remember where?" he asked, his eyes following Maitree's figure as she conversed with Khushi. Shourya shook his head slightly, indicating that he couldn't recall.
"We will figure it out," Shourya declared after a brief pause, determination in his voice. Rudra nodded in agreement, his curiosity piqued.
Shourya turned to look out the window and thought, "It's not just her eyes; her way of talking, her looks all remind me of someone. I just hope it's not who I think it is." His expression grew more serious as he mulled over the unsettling possibility.
And the flight took off.
