"It has been two months since he got married, went on his honeymoon, and came back," my best friend Sonakshi yelled from the kitchen. I rolled my eyes, feeling a bit exasperated. Sona had been relentlessly talking about going on a date for the past couple of weeks. I decided to slip out quietly, making sure I had my phone, wallet, and everything I needed. But before I could make my escape, Sona called out, "Maitree, stop avoiding!"

"I am not avoiding," I mumbled, "I am just taking some time for myself. Besides, I believe it's wrong to date someone solely to make my ex feel bad." Sona's expression softened as she listened. "I understand, Mai, but seeing your ex smile and be happy infuriates me," she exclaimed, making her frustration evident. "He's a good guy who recently transferred to our hospital, and Khushi knows him. Mai, please, just one coffee. That's all I'm asking for." I sighed, knowing how much it meant to Sona. "Sonakshi Bose, I'm doing this because I love you. I'll meet him for one coffee, but don't expect me to enjoy it." With that, I walked out of the apartment.

I can't believe I actually agreed to a blind date with a doctor, probably a senior doctor who might even be my boss. But what can I do? I thought while sitting by the window seat and munching on a chocolate bar. Sonakshi has been persistently pushing me, and I can't say no to her anymore. It has always been her and me, especially since I don't have much family being an orphan. It's just the two of us. With that phone beeped with the details for my mystery date.

"Rudraksh, are you even listening?" Khushi's voice jolted me out of my thoughts. I nodded, joining her in the kitchen. Frustration dripped from my words as I declared, "No more blind dates. The last nine were nothing short of traumatic. Where did you find those girls? Some were completely clueless about their own professions, others incessantly praised me, and a few had the audacity to arrive late without an ounce of remorse."

"I know the last nine didn't work out, but she is perfect for you!" Khushi exclaimed, sipping on the coffee I had just poured for her. "That's what you said about the previous nine dates," I retorted, grabbing a mug for myself. Khushi persisted, "But this time it's different. She's a resident, has assisted in prominent surgeries, and has an outstanding record. Dr. Verma even said she's the best surgeon they've seen in a while.

"So, she's a good doctor. What does that have to do with me?" Rudra questioned, a hint of skepticism in his voice."

"Being in similar fields, you both will understand each other. Isn't that important in a marriage?" Khushi reasoned

"I guess," Rudra replied, placing his empty coffee cup in the sink.

"I swear, if you weren't Shourya's wife, I would have kicked you out after my second blind date," I remarked, half-jokingly.

"Oh, don't let me stop you," Shourya chimed in from behind the newspaper, breaking his silence. Khushi rolled her eyes and got up to pack lunch.

"How do you know Dr. Randhawa anyway?" Shourya inquired.

"She is my neighbor's friend from back home. Our moms are good friends, and both of them moved to Mumbai for medical school," Khushi explained.

"Do you think this one would work out?" Rudra whispered, seeking Shourya's opinion.

"Only time will tell," Shourya replied, his attention returning to the newspaper. Sometimes Rudra found his best friend Shourya tiring, but he understood that their dynamic worked well because Shourya was the calm one while Rudra was the spontaneous one. Their contrasting personalities balanced each other out.

"Come to the bakery at 4 pm. Dr. Randhawa will be there," Khushi said, while wrapping up lunch bags for Shourya and Rudra.

"I'm not coming to your bakery so you can spy on us," Rudra objected.

"You messed up the last nine dates. I'm not letting you mess this one up," Khushi insisted.

"How do you know I messed up the last nine dates?" Rudra questioned.

"Because I know you," Khushi replied knowingly.

"Shourya, say something!" Rudra pleaded, seeking his best friend's support.

"Khushi, let him do his thing," Shourya responded calmly.

"Fine! I'll pick a new venue and send you the details," Khushi said, sulkingly.

"Thank you," Rudra mouthed silently to Shourya, grateful for his friend's intervention. And with that both of them headed to the hospital.
